Minutes of the Sanson Community Committee held in the Library at 7 30pm on Wednesday 26th October 2011

Present; Councillor Margaret Kouvelis, James O'Regan, Ross Vile, Ed Hills, Grant Mc Gaughey, Donny Wilson, Del Parker, Nola Borrett, Kristy Whittaker, Cath Purdie, Sam Brown and Ann Fullerton.

Apologies; Richard Gravenor and Andy Ewan

Correspondence in; From M.D.C. re Community Honours awards.

Correspondence out; Nil

Minutes of September meeting accepted as correct. Grant/ Donny.

Council Report;
Margaret reported on the L.T.P. which has been adopted and good progress made. Submissions on boundary changes been listened to. Council has earthquake policy in hand.
Gateway signage has not been lost and Council has visions for smaller villages. While the Junction Hotel project has come to a halt it has not been forgotten. The upcoming 75th Anniversary of Ohakea will be a big occasion with spinoffs for our village.

General Business;
Cath spoke about the unsolicited mail that comes through our letter boxes. She said that we all want the best for Sanson and the negativity that is being written is not leaving a good impression especially on newcomers to the village. She stated that if anyone thought that they had been defamed they need to swear an affidavit and go to police who will take action. Del spoke about Cath putting her right about minutes which should not be posted
on website until they have been passed at next meeting.
Kristy spoke about her feeling that the sub committees Hall and Sunday Market should report to Community Committee perhaps every three months. Del replied that she had just completed the Annual Hall Report to Council and this could be made available. Also mentioned was the proposal to replace the carpet squares on the hall walls with acoustic tiles. Council has said that they will clean the moss and lichen from the hall roof.
The hall has been the subject of a report that we have twice asked for a copy of and not received.
Ed asked what was the committee's views re media attending the meetings and reporting on same. Committee to have discussion on this matter.
He also still would like the Mayor Ian McKelvie to attend and give us an explanation re the Junction Hotel site. He felt that Ian's letter to the September meeting did not cover the issues. Del to write to Ian and this could be a special meeting at his convenience.
The grandstand at the Rec was discussed with some feeling it was too far gone and others wishing it to be retained. Ed would like to know had there been a feasibility study done on it? James is annoyed that the Feilding Garden Show sign that was placed on the grandstand months ago has still not been removed.
Ross objected to phone calls on mobil phones being taken at meeting. James, who is on twenty four hour callout should be the only one to have his phone switched on.
Grant;
1. Is disappointed that the signage for Sanson and the Sunday Market has still not moved ahead.
2. He is also disappointed that the new Snippets has turned into an advertising brochure. Our committee needs to support Jenny by giving her news items.
3. The gorse behind Harris Contracting (on Council owned land) and also at the tarpot is still flourishing.
4. What progress is there towards the Caravan Dump site. Cath said that her husband Brian had tried to contact Brent Limmer about this with no success.

Nola complained that the doggy doo bin on the walking track is over flowing and the track needs re liming. Could we please have another two loads of lime and we will get the P.D. boys to spread it.

James is fed up with the state of the flower beds by the Pedestrian Refuge Shelter which should have been replanted several weeks ago. It looks as though nobody cares about how Sanson looks.
Del said that a local, Wayne Fergusson and his two sons had cleaned out the sumps at the corner of Burt St. and Dundas Rd in the last lot of wet weather thus preventing the flooding of the footpaths.
David Pickles asked Del to record his thanks at the concrete located at the mail box which now means he can access it in his motorized wheel chair.

Meeting closed at 9 30 pm
Next meeting in the Library at 7 30pm on Wednesday 23rd November 2011

(Committee members are requested to be present at 7 15pm for a closed committee meeting before the public meeting.)
