Correspondence in;
From Mayor Ian McKelvie with apologies for non attendance and
containing several items for the committee to consider.
E-mail from Helen Worboys re W.R.C.Flags.
Correspondence out;
Letter to Philip Bronn re community funding.
Letter to the mayor inviting him to this meeting.
No Council report.
General Business;
Committee discussed Ian's letter and gave some thought to his
ideas about the Library.
Ed Hills said that we should up the ante re the hotel and leave
an open invitation to the mayor to come to our meeting as Ed
stills feels we are owed an apology and still wishes to view
the concepts that have been drawn up for this project..
Jo Duncan enquired re committee procedures and Kristi suggested
that she should write to the secretary about any issue she may
have.
She also complained about the Recycling Centre mainly about
the glass littering the grounds and also felt the bottle and
glass recycling is insufficient.
Jo is also unhappy with the drainage in Grace St.
Kristi complained about the gorse still growing at the Tarpot.
Nola read out Del's letter of apology
to the meeting which also criticized Ann Fullerton's latest
Occasional Newsletter which Del felt defamed her.
James then threw the meeting open so everybody could have their
say about this letter.
Ed said he was gobsmacked that Ann continues to write these
newsletters and he said that she misrepresented his views re
the hotel project which he is not against but would like to
see progress.
Diane Murray said that five parents had rung her re the racial
comments in the newsletter. Kids need to grow up in a safe environment
and learn racial tolerance,
The remarks written about the Moslem lady at the Sunday Market
wearing her burqa were totally uncalled for. Jo Duncan said
that she was disgusted, appalled and ashamed that we would treat
a fellow resident in this way. She asked Ann to write a letter
of apology to the Moslem family.
Andy thinks that Ann writes well but should be careful about
what she writes.
Ed Hills wants the committee to move a motion asking Ann to
desist from writing but Kristi said we are not police and can
not stop people writing whatever they like.
Ann was then given her right of reply.
She said that her main reason for writing the newsletter was
she felt the committee was letting down Sanson, the rates are
too high and the committee is on too friendly terms with the
M.D.C.
She said that she had lost her son and did not want to lose
her house through high rates. She told Diane that her letter
was not a racial attack. To Jo she said that her letter had
been checked by a lawyer. To Andy's suggestion that she should
get together with Del she said that she had tried to patch up
their relationship.
Meeting closed at 9.02pm
Next meeting in the Library at 7 30pm on Wednesday 26th October
2011
