SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
It is pleasing to see residents taking an interest in our village
and coming along to the committee meetings. You are all welcome.
The next meeting will be held in the Library at 7pm on Wednesday
27th September. We were delighted with the response that
we received from Phillips St. residents for speed humps and a footpath.
These petitions have now gone to the M.D.C. and we await their response.
The committee feel that villages like Sanson and Rongotea pay dearly
for the services that we have and we constantly remind the M.D.C.
that we expect in the year 2006 better drainage, footpaths etc.
We have asked for a meeting with the reserves manager to see if
something can be done about the drainage at the playground. Several
trees have been planted there and they have failed to thrive due
to the soggy ground. In the car park at the Community Hall a large
pothole has been patched several times by the Council and recently
James O’Regan suggested that perhaps it was the site of an old well
and sure enough he surmised correctly. It has now been dug out and
compacted thoroughly and resealed. We are aware that in days long
gone there was several of these beautifully crafted brick wells
built in this area the most notable being the one in the Caltex
Shop.
SANSON COMMUNITY
LIBRARY
Did you know that Telecom provides us with regular updates of all
New Zealand phone books? As they get bigger they seem to make the
print smaller so we now provide a magnifying glass for those of
us who are visually challenged. As well as our photo copying service
we also have a laminator so if you want your C.V. laminated this
is the place to come. Opening hours are
Monday 10am to midday Tuesday 2pm to 4pm. Thursday 10am to midday
Friday 2pm to 4pm. Saturday 11am to 1pm.
We will be having a coffee morning on Tuesday 12th September at
10am. and you are all welcome. If you are new to the village come
along and meet the locals and see what services the library offers.
We have now figured out how to send E-Mails from our computer and
all the databases are there for residents to check out. Library
is free to all except for the photocopying and laminating services.
There are still a few books overdue from our last issue. If you
are guilty please bring them back!
COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT!
We haven’t had a niggle about the Recycling Centre for a while so
here goes. Sadly some people are abusing this facility and using
it as a rubbish dump. This is very aggravating to Daniel who keeps
the place tidy. The person who left identifying envelopes among
the rotten bananas in their rubbish will be hearing from the M.D.C.
The rule is paper goes in the paper slot (not in the cardboard container)
milk bottles in milk bottle slot etc. and if there is not a place
for it don’t leave it! Surely that is easy to understand isn’t it?
BAD DOGS AND GOOD
DOGS.
If a dog menaces you please ring the dog ranger on 3230000 and he
will take action. It is a poor show when one blind resident is afraid
to include Dundas Rd. on his daily walk because of a dog rushing
at him. Have you noticed Barry’s new guide dog Gabe? If you wish
to pat him (the dog I mean) please ask permission first. This young
dog is gradually getting accustomed to guiding Barry about the village.
That’s it for this month so rejoice in the lovely
spring weather which is at long last on it’s way. (And about time
too.)
