SEPTEMBER
2005
This month Danz Lawnmowing Services is funding the Snippets and
we thank Daniel for his support. Each month it costs $40 to produce
and deliver and it is appreciated when we don't have to go looking
for funding. We also acknowledge all of our readers who unasked
give donations from time to time. Thank you one and all!
FESTIVE LIGHTING!!
And while on the subject of money we were thrilled
to receive a letter from Central Energy in answer to our application
allocating us $3000!! Did you hear the whoops of joy when I opened
the mail? It made all the work worth while. Attached to this newsletter
is a list of all the subscibers so far and we are still hoping for
more. Elaine and Del have met with Albert James about all the finer
details of installation and storage of the lights and we are about
to make a selection and order them. A suggestion has been made that
we have a Lighting Up Party in December and more about this later.
SANSON TRAMWAY
Recently Del met with Sarah Anderton and Tracy
Hunt at the Council to put in an application for funding for Selwyn
Sparrow's proposal for a commemorative plaque for the Sanson Tramway.
Selwyn has moved to Katikati recently so we have taken this project
up for him. If we are successful we should be notified quite soon
and then we can have the plaque made and installed on the site of
the old goods shed on the corner of Phillips St. and the State Highway.
CEMETERY RD. WALKWAY.
And soon we will be running yet more raffles and
fundraising for the extension for our pet project the walking track.
We believe that we can apply to Transit N.Z. for funding as they
have a policy for a walkway from Cape Reinga to the Bluff so why
not go up Cemetery Rd? Once again nothing venture, nothing win!!
We believe that we have to fund raise $3650. We look forward to
the completion of the roadworks on Cemetery Rd.
There have been a few changes in the village recently.Weekend Crafts
have moved into the building recently occupied by Sanson Fruit Supplies.
Betty has asked me to thank residents for their patronage over the
years . If you wish to buy Gavin's famous honey or his beautiful
daffodils he can be found at the Friday Farmer's Market in Feilding.
Bamboo and Teak have closed and also Dad and Dave's
second hand shop and we await with interest to see what businesses
move in.
SANSON CLUB
The Fashion Parade of pre-loved clothing at the
Club was very successful and raised $112 towards the Festive Lights
and also approximately $100 for Manchester House who provided the
clothing. So it was a good fund-raiser and a jolly good night out.
Many thanks to the organisers of this project. The Club is holding
a karoake evening on September 10th at 7 p.m. Entrance is by gold
coin and all residents are welcome particularly if you can sing!!
SANSON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
meet in the supper-room of the Community Hall at
1 30 p.m. on Tuesday September 6th and all women are welcome. This
month the speaker will be from St John;s Ambulance. They are a friendly
bunch of women and are always keen to attract new members.
COMMISERATIONS
Those of us who knew Dave Kinloch were distressed
to hear some time ago of his illness and subsequent death last week
and we send our heartfelt sympathy to his family. Dave has been
a stalwart member of the Sanson Ohakea R.S.A. and a real gentleman
who will be sorely missed by all his friends.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Our library Volunteer and organiser of the Children's
Holiday Programme, Carol Swan has been in hospital and is now recovering
at home and we look forward to better times ahead for her. Take
it quietly Carol and we look forward to you joining us again when
you are recovered. We are still missing a few books from our previous
Feilding consignments and if your child has received a note about
these please look for these books. For the benefit of new residents
the Library is free to all and we have our photo copying service
at 10c per A4 page and masses of jigsaw puzzles.
Opening hours are
Monday 10 a.m. to midday Tuesday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. to midday Friday 2 p.m. tp 4 p.m.
Saturday 11 a.m.to 1 p.m.
OUR ELDERLY
We heard today about one of our elderly residents
going to hospital by ambulance and after being treated having to
get a taxi to return home! We know that we have several of our older
folks who, unable to drive themselves are now reliant on other people's
goodwill to get to the Dr. or Hospital or even to get necessary
shopping and we would welcome feedback from any residents who may
be able to help out. We are aware that in towns taxi vouchers are
available through Age Concern but there seems to be precious little
for our elderly. We know of several residents who go out of their
way to help the oldies and if you have any ideas or are able to
offer help phone Del 3293674.
OPERATION COVER-UP
We were pleased tp deliver five blankets plus forty
peggy squares to Janet Wright the coordinator of this project. The
blankets and warm jerseys, hats and mittens will be delivered to
orphanages in Moldova before the northern winter. Many thanks to
those of you who have helped with wool etc.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
The next meeting of the committee will be held
in the Library at 7 p.m. on Wednesday the 28th September. All welcome.
At our last meeting the old perennial of roaming dogs came up yet
again and we ask residents to make sure that their pets are confined
to their own property or they may find themselves faced with a big
bill from the Animal Pound to recover their animal. Dog traps are
available from the dog ranger and this seems to be the only way
to enforce the dog by laws.

you need Daniel's services for lawnmowing etc. phone him on 3293549
