SANSON SNIPPETS

DECEMBER 2006

This last newsletter for 2006 comes to you courtesy of Fransesca Lowe of the District Monitor and we thank her for the sponsorship. Fransesca came along to our banner painting day at the Hall and was impressed with the work that we have undertaken. Thanks also to all our other sponsors and residents who have enabled us by their generosity to produce the Snippets each month. We are also grateful to Liz and Carol who have managed to sort out the whims of our photocopier when it has been too much for this technically challenged person. Quite a bit of effort is required each month getting the news, verifying it, getting it into print and distributing it. We look forward to a break over the holidays and will be back in February.

SANSON COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL POOL
School breaks up for the summer holidays on December 20th and if you are intending to buy a pool key these may be purchased at the school office for $62 for a new card and $50 for a renewal. Casual keys will also be available from Del phone 3293674 at $25, the $20 returned on return of the key. So far this season the weather has been too cold to swim and consideration needs to be given to heating the pool so it can be utilised all year. As the pool is already covered this should not be too difficult. Accordingly we now need feedback from the community as to whether or not this is feasible. Tentative costings show that $15,000 would need to be raised. If the pool committee goes ahead with this any help offered towards fund raising would be appreciated. To get funding from any of the usual agencies some money needs to be raised first. Several residents have offered to help Steve with pool maintenance and would they please contact Steve Morgan 329 3400.
All feedback to Steve or to the Library

CEMETERY ROAD WALKING TRACK
Tim of Weekend Craft won our second raffle with ticket no 70 and Tim has generously donated it back to us. Heaven knows raising money is a real trial and we deeply appreciate his gesture. We are grateful to all of you who supported our raffles and wished you all could win. The Funding application to Eastern and Central Community Trust has been completed and we await their response. Fingers Crossed!!!
While on the subject of the track could residents who walk dogs there please ensure that they are on a leash when meeting other walkers. Not all of us are confident about our safety with dogs. You may know that your dog would lick us to death but we would prefer that your dog be restrained. Also please carry a pooper-scooper! Are dog owners aware that the Domain is an authorized exercise area where your dog can run at will?

CONDOLENCES
Our sympathy goes to Mrs. Margaret Foster and family on the passing of Margaret’s son Bryan who was well known to many in our community. Also to Liz and Neale Titter on the passing of Liz’s father after a long illness. We are aware of several people in our community who are struggling healthwise and we wish them all the best. Friends of Neale and Liz Titter will be sad to hear that Neale is on transfer to the Hawkes Bay and while we wish them well we are sorry to lose such community minded people.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS!
Our Christmas lights are in the process of being installed. We wish that this wretched wind would stop blowing so we can get the job completed. The Christmas banners that we have been working on should be hung next week and we hope that you like them. We had a good turnout at the hall to paint them and were pleased to see some of the young ones turn up to help. Certainly we have had a lot of pleasure making them. On Friday the 15th December the Sanson Club is putting on a sausage sizzle at 6 pm and then we will go on to the Library for tea, coffee or fizz and Christmas Cake. We hope that many of you will come along particularly those of you who are new to the village.
The Sanson Club is holding it’s Christmas Party on December 9th and their multi draw raffle will be drawn commencing at 7 pm.
The Community Committee will hold a very informal meeting in the Library on the same night as our Christmas Party.

GRAFFITI
We would love to know who the talented artists who have graffitied the back wall of the Community Hall. We have ideas for applying to Creative Communities for a grant to paint a mural there. It is such an ugly wall at present and these graffiti artists could have a hey day there if they wished. It could look so colourful! Please contact James on 3293722 or Del on 3293674.

BROADBAND.
I have received a good number of e-mails from residents and I have made an appointment for Friday December 8th with local M.P. Simon Power to present a submission for our telephone exchange to be updated to get Broadband. Here’s hoping!

Did you go along and take advantage of your voucher for half price ice cream, ice cream sundae or coffee at the Crazy Sundae Ice Cream Parlour at the weekend? We are quite impressed with the new look that this business has and wish Viv and Robyn well in their new venture.
Have you done your Christmas shopping yet? May we suggest that you look no further than the Sheepskin Shop, Presence in Sanson, Sanson X Roads Crafts and Gifts or the Sanson Antique Centre? Plenty of ideas to be had right here in the village.

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY.
We have been disappointed the way attendance has dropped off at our Library. We have lost several of our regulars who have moved out of town. It is dispiriting for the volunteers to sit for two hours and have nobody come. If you are meaning to join do come along and see our vast range of books and have a go on the internet that the M.D.C. has provide for us. Our next book change is at 10 am on Wednesday December 13th and we appreciate all the help that you can give us. If there is anything in particular that you would like to read we can order it for you. We will close on Friday the 22nd of December for a well deserved break and re-open on Monday the 15th of January.
Library Hours are 10am to midday Monday and Thursday; 2pm to 4pm Wednesday and Friday and 11am to 1pm Saturday.
