Sanson Snippets
Agricultural Traders are the sponsors of this month's Snippets.
If you are in the market for good quality imported machinery from
Japan go along and see Kevin and Des at the junction of State Highways
1 and 3. They also have the Aqua brand of water tanks on the premises
where the lower overheads mean lower prices. They can be contacted
on phone 3293587
Neighbourhood
Support.
In June 8th we held a meeting in the supper-room that was only attended
by the faithful few. Thank you to those of you who bothered to come
along. Where were the moaners amongst us who make all the complaints?
We hope to re-activate the street groups and we are looking for
helpers who are prepared to approach their close neighbours and
form groups. Any of you offering to help please ring Del on 3293674
for further information.
What do you think when you hear a chain saw going on a Sunday morning?
Somebody cutting up firewood? In one recent case it was burglars
cutting their way into a resident's garage and making off with quite
a haul. Fortunately a bit of detective work meant that the goods
were recovered and the Police now know where a renowned burglar
is currently residing. In this day and age we all need to be aware
that out there, there are low life ready to uplift our hard earned
goods.
BLOOD DONORS!
Do you give blood? Blood is a lifesaver to many people and in the
case of one young person in our circulation area it has taken the
donations from sixty people to start her on the road to recovery.
This is an enormous drain on the blood bank's resources and her
family is very grateful to those among us who go along and give
their donation. Believe me it doesn't hurt and only takes up a small
amount of your time and so worthwhile when we think of the benefits
to the recipients. The blood bank can be contacted on phone 3503658.
PLEASE don't just think about it DO IT!!!
COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At our June meeting the vexed question of what to do about the traffic
bypassing the junction corner and speeding up Phillips St. was aired
yet again. Members resolved to bring this once again to the M.D.C.'s
attention that the present situation is not acceptable with the
new housing in this area and young families moving in. There has
to be a solution to the problem and it is up to the Council to find
it. Also a letter was received from the Sanson School offering to
take over the management of the Community Hall. After discussion
it was decided that the status quo should prevail as the custodian
needs to be able to be contacted weekends and evenings. The custodian
is happy to carry on with the present arrangements provided that
hirers of the hall abide by the rules particularly the one about
leaving the place clean!
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday July 24th at 7pm in the
Library. All Welcome!
GLENBRAE MARCHING TEAM
Are you interested in marching? Glenbrae Marching Team is looking
for masters grade (25 years and older) to join their team. Anyone
with previous experience would be preferred but not necessary. The
team trains in the Community Hall each Wednesday evening from 6.30pm
to 8.30pm. If you are interested please contact Ann on phone 3566876.
SANSON PLAY CENTRE
Is currently operating three mornings per week at 2 Phillips St.
They are open on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings from 9am
to 12 midday. The first three visits are free. Children aged birth
to school age are welcome and special needs children are also catered
for. As part of their term 2 fundraiser they will be having a stall
at the Sanson Mart on Sunday 16th of July. If you have anything
to donate please contact Michelle on phone 3293889. Also on sale
will be their tried and true Sanson Playcentre Cookbooks for $5
each.
Do come along and join in the fun and meet other families with young
children!
CATS!
I seem to have heard a lot about cats recently. Do they all go walkabout
at this time of year? One a very thin sandy cat with specks of tortoiseshell
turned up at a State Highway 3 address recently. Obviously somebody's
pet and as it wasn't claimed it has been taken to the Feilding S.P.C.A.
Another, a tabby tomcat with white specks was killed by a car outside
9 Phillips St. recently. Surprisingly no complaints about dogs recently
and that may be because one of the worst offenders has left town
along with its owners.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY.
We had our book change during the month and what a great selection
of books we have. Something to suit all tastes. All we need is YOU
to come along and borrow them. Thank you to those who came along
and helped us with the change. We welcome Mihi back after her enforced
absence and wish her good health.
Now that we are getting to grips with our new computer we look forward
to anybody wishing to use it to come along and have a go. The only
charge will be for printing out copy. We have some wonderful databases
that are not usually available to the average home computer. School
children are especially welcome to come and research for their school
projects.
During the week July 3rd to 8th we will be having our holiday programme
for the young ones and all children are welcome. This is entirely
free as are all our services except for the photocopying at 10cents
per A4 Page.
Nola's
pink legs from her front garden have been returned to her after
being found under a hedge but there are still items missing from
her very decorative and much talked about garden. Sadly she is so
fed up with her garden being interfered with that she is talking
about giving it up. That would be a real shame as it adds a little
bit of something different to our village.
Lots of flu bugs around
and we sympathize with those of you who aren't as well as you would
like to be. We have heard of hospital admissions with heart complaints,
shoulder surgery etc and also an elderly gentleman who fell in Dundas
Rd. and was helped home by the Highway Patrol Police. Neighbourhood
Support should also mean taking care of each other in a caring way.
Oh, if only we were all perfect!!
And please, if you are thinking of donating blood DO IT!!!
Sanson Club inc
The club is pleased to announce that they have now purchased the
premises from the M.D.C. and that the school buildings which they
occupy and is such a part of Sanson's history, will remain as a
community asset. Congratulations!
