November 2005
This month's Snippets comes to you courtesy of The Church Cafe the
home of heavenly food and divine coffee where they have just celebrated
their 2nd birthday and a very successful two years it has been.
98% of the food is made on the property and their apricot and date
scones are to die for! Their out catering service has been very
successful and if you have a function coming up call in for a quote.
The Cafe's opening hours are from 8a.m. till 4ish seven days a week
and Sharon and her angels will be delighted to see you! Phone 329-3150.
This month's events are
MELBOURNE CUP DAY at the Sanson Club to which all
residents are invited. This is on Tuesday 1st November and the fun
starts with refreshments at 2 p.m. Wear your glad rags as there
is a prize for the best dressed. Sweepstakes are $2 and $5 so if,
like me you only have a bet on THE CUP! this is the day!
The SANSON TRAMWAY PLAQUE will be unveiled at 1p.m. onTuesday 29th
November by the Mayor Mr. Ian McKelvie. This is on the corner of
Philips St and the State Highway and Peter Sparrow who was concerned
that the existence of the tramway would just fade into oblivion
will be in attendance. This will be the 60th Anniversary of the
last running of the tram on November 29th 1945. We had a nil response
from residents about memorabilia. Surely someone out there has photos
of the engine or the water tower that stood next to Harris Bros.
yard until the early seventies or anything else pertainng to the
tramway. All welcome on this memorable occasion!
MOVING ON!
We are going to miss Mrs. Joan Richards when she
moves to Palmerston North later this month. Joan, we wish you well
and I look forward to visiting you in your new home.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Those of us who have been associated with Barbara
Bramwell on the Community Committee were sorry to hear of her passing.
Barbara was our liaison Councillor with the Manawatu District Council
for several years and was a great help to us with her wide knowledge
and experience.
The next meeting of the committee will be held
in the Library on Wednesday 23rd November at 7 30 p.m.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Still quite a few books outstanding from our last
Feilding selection. Our volunteers would appreciate them being returned
without us having to chase you up!
We are expecting to get the computer for the Library
in the New Year by which time we should have Broadband installed
in our telephone exchange. I had a ring around and managed to find
twenty people as requested by Telecom who are interested in the
fast connection and enough waves have been made to make this a happening.
