SANSON SNIPPETS
NOVEMBER 2006
Nola from FOXPINE LOGGING COMPANY
is this month?s sponsor. If you are wondering who Nola is, she is
the very artistic lady who has the pink legs and other sundry decorations
in her garden and in the window of her home in Dundas Rd. These
are quite a talking point in our village and certainly attract interest
to passersby as well as the locals.
My request for those of you who are keen to have Broadband met with
a mixed response. I have heard from residents who I had never heard
of before and thank them for their response and look forward to
meeting them. Others who I have approached have then sent an e-mail
to me and I now have a pile of e-mails that I have printed off to
take with the petition to Simon Power. I would like a few more so
just send to dondel@clear.net.nz and we will see if we can make
a difference. Don?t just think about it, DO IT!!! The bigger response
we get the more likely we are to get it.
CONDOLENCES
Friends of Neville Simpson were saddened to hear of his sudden passing
and we extend our sympathy to Dorothy and her family.
And we were sorry to hear that Gwen O?Regan has passed away at Lancewood
Rest Home.
Gwen was our oldest resident and had lived in Sanson for most of
her nearly ninety years. She was one of our most avid library users
and it was with real sadness that her failing eyesight meant that
reading became a near impossibility for her. Our sympathy goes out
to her sons Brian and James.
We are aware that there are several residents who are not as well
as they would like to be and we send our best wishes to them.
RELOCATION
Ada and Brian Collier who have lived on State Highway 1 for all
of their married life have relocated to Palmerston North and the
new owners of their property are thoroughly enjoying the garden,
which Brian and Ada had worked in so diligently.
As we get older these large country gardens get to be a mission
and to have keen gardeners like Chris and Maree take it over is
a real bonus. We wish Ada and Brian joy in their new home.
SANSON CLUB MELBOURNE CUP DAY
The club invites residents to join in with them on November 7th
for the annual running of the Melbourne Cup. $2 and $5 sweepstakes
will be available and the club will be open from 2 30 pm. Food and
drink on sale. Do come along and join in the fun!
GRAND OPENING!
Viv and Robyn invite you to the opening of their new business in
the Café Castile building on November 18th. They have a great
new name for their business and we wish them well. It has not been
a good look for the village with empty premises and
The timing of their opening coincides with the Chinese Takeaways
closing for their owners to take a well-deserved break.
Also Andrew has opened a Streetwise Coffee business at the front
of the Countrywide Motor Company and I hear tell the coffee is very
good.
SANSON PLAYCENTRE
It’s all go at the Sanson Playcentre! Rolls have increased so we
are now offering sessions four mornings a week.
The latest addition is 9 30 am to 12.30 pm on Wednesdays and is
specifically for over three and a half year olds where parents are
looking for social interactions for children who will progress on
to school. Children can develop friendships with other children
they may otherwise not get to meet. This special session helps with
preparing for school and costs $3.00 per session with no duty requirements
by parents.
There are some spaces still available.
On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the Playcentre run their normal
9.00am to 12md sessions where parents stay until their child is
over two and half years old or settled and work on a duty roster
to help run the session.
Playcentre is a great place to make friendships for both adults
and children with space available for either one, two or three days
here in your own quality community childhood education centre.
Contact us on 3293503 or drop in and visit with your children.
Since I was asked to put this ad in the Snippets I have been informed
of ongoing vandalism at the Centre by the local hoons. It is sad
that volunteers have to go and clean up broken glass etc. to make
the place safe for the little ones. If you hear or see intruders
on this property please phone Bulls Police on 322 2020. Vandalism
seems to be an ongoing problem in the village with one lot of trouble
makers suddenly growing up and getting over it and then along come
the next lot!!
SANSON SCHOOL AGRICULTURAL AND CRAFT DAY
If you didn’t go over to the school last Friday you missed a treat.
Councillor John Gregory performed the opening ceremony of the new
refurbished entrance and administration block. The playground has
also been updated and everything looks really up to date and a good
place to go and get educated. The calves and lambs all behaved impeccably
and were a credit to the children exhibiting them. The craft work
was truly amazing and as for the cakes! Scrummy!
Congratulations to the staff, Friends of the School Committee and
children alike.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
We held a successful Coffee Morning last month and will repeat it
on Wednesday,
November 8th at 10 am. Don’t be shy, come along and join in.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
It is pleasing to see residents attend these meetings and take an
interest in our village and the things that concern us all. We are
still grappling with the Phillips St. traffic problems and of course
the everlasting vexed questions of lanes, drains and footpaths or
lack of. Next meeting will be held in the Library on Wednesday November
22nd at 7.30pm. Our festive lights committee is working on the Xmas
theme banners that we hope to hang in Dundas Rd. this year. Like
everything else in this life it is three steps forward and two steps
back. If you are a dab hand with a paint brush and can stay within
the lines we invite you to come along to the Community Hall next
Saturday at 10.30am. and join in the fun.
Bring your lunch and make a day of it!
The Cemetery Rd. Walking track raffle was won by number 41 Ashley
Anderson and the 2nd raffle is now circulating. Thank you for your
support.
