Sanson Snippets
Tina at SANSON XROADS CRAFTS and GIFTS
is the sponsor of this month’s Snippets. In her shop in the Golden
Galleon building you will find all sorts of knick-knacks. There
is an amazing range of craftwork for sale some of which has been
made by local craftspeople. Have you seen the $1, $2 and $3 range?
It beats going to Feilding and elsewhere in this day of high petrol
prices when all the gifts you could possibly want are to be found
right here in Sanson. Tina is also considering carrying convenience
food such as tea, coffee, tinned foods etc at competitive prices.
Suggestions welcome! If you haven’t been in for a browse you are
missing a treat. Tina’s phone number is 3293171 and the opening
hours are 10am to 4pm.
Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY.
Where were all the children when we ran the holiday programme?
It was disappointing to those of us who put in time and effort
and only a few children turn up. O.K. The weather was lousy but
the library is lovely and warm and the ones who came had a good
time. We change our Feilding books on Wednesday August 16th and
welcome help from those who have a couple of hours to spare from
10.30 to midday on that day. There are still a few outstanding
books from our previous change.
We now have access to a laminator so this is another service we
can offer along with the photocopying. Some residents have come
along and had a go on the computer and this is free unless a downloaded
item is printed.
VANDALISM
Bill at Rainbow Furniture is getting fed up with the vandalism
at his property. Initials scratched on seats etc. Recently he
has had stolen a wooden fish which has the makers initials engraved
on it. This was securely (so Bill thought) glued on beside the
bridge in his outdoor display and it would have taken an almighty
effort to pry it off.
If it has arrived at your place he would like it back please.
HELP PLEASE!
Ryan wants to lease up to five acres of land. If you can help
him please contact him on phone 3293151
The diary for the Community hall is rapidly filling up so if
you have a function coming up contact Del on phone 3293674
Individual quotes given.
PLEASE SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Four committee members met recently with Nick Bruin from M.D.C.
to discuss the traffic problem in Phillips St. west. As a consequence
residents have been asked to support a petition for a footpath.
Council has also agreed that the best way to control the speed
of traffic is to install speed humps. Residents have received
a flier with a map and asked to mark where these should be placed.
We understand that not everybody likes speed humps but this seems
to be the best answer to this problem in this very narrow street.
Much of the traffic particularly on long weekends appears to be
out of towners anxious to avoid the junction corner.
The committee has also told the Council that we are not happy
about many of our back streets with their open drains. no footpaths
and lack of drainage from sections which have had too much rain
over these last few weeks. Over the last few days we have all
had a good chance to get our lawns mowed and I wonder how many
of you are frustrated by the inconsiderate motorists who persist
in turning on the grass verges thereby leaving grooves.
As for the lad who shall remain nameless who endeavoured to drive
through the lane behind Ross Vile’s property and got stuck we
would like to say GROWUP! Ross has always maintained his end of
the lane and this is disheartening to have this mess made. Visit
www.sanson.net.nz to see the damage.
Next meeting of the committee will be held in the Library on Wednesday
August 23rd at 7pm. All welcome.
ROAMING DOGS
If it is your dog going through the rubbish tins in Dundas Rd.
and leaving an awful mess, shame on you. We suggest that you feed
it and tie it up.
Now with lambing in full swing dogs should not be left to roam
at will.
The dog ranger recently impounded one dog going through rubbish
bags and we suspect that there are at least two others out there
that need to go for a holiday at the pound.
NEIGHBOURHOOD SUPPORT.
We have managed to find another three people willing (or unwillingly!)
to organize street support groups. Hopefully a few more of you
may offer to help without us cajoling you into it! We don’t wish
to pry into people’s lives just make sure that when support is
needed it is there. All that is needed is to form a group of those
living close to you. Contact Del 3293674.
Cogratulations to Ron Scandlyn who recently celebrated his 80th
birthday! And also to the young (!) lady who was accorded a surprise
birthday party in the hall last weekend.
