SANSON SNIPPETS
FEBRUARY 2006

This month's Snippets comes to you courtesy of High Country 4WD which is operated by Phil Slagter and Kathy Craw. Phil and Kathy specialise in on and off road training and N.Z.Q.A assessments. This business mostly revolves around 4WD ATV and tractor operating training. They also sell a range of 4WD accessories and deal in Cooper tyres. Another service they offer is removing car wrecks so if like me you have one in your backyard you want removed Phil is the man for you! Contact numbers are 329 3448 or mobile 0274 493 489. E-mail hc4wd@xtra.co.nz

SANSON SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY POOL
The pool has certainly been well used this summer and while this hot weather keeps up it is a great asset. However! It has come to our attention that certain persons without a pass have been swimming. A casual pass is available from Del at 329 3674 for $25, $20 is refundable on return of the pass and this has worked quite satisfactorily. It is an offence to lend your pass to others and if it can be proved that you have done so the pass may be confiscated. The night watchman has found swimmers there after 8 30 pm which is also a no no. Please stick by the rules!

WELCOME!
to all those new residents in the village. We trust that you have been made welcome and have been made aware of the various facilities that Sanson has to offer. Great to see the building of new homes in Phillips St. and behind the Sanson Club. It appears that most of the Phillips St. sections have been sold and we look forward to watching progress being made there.

CONDOLENCES
Since our last newsletter we note the passing of Bill Harding and Mrs. Vi Course. These two were long time residents of Sanson and we extend our sympathy to Bill's wife Beryl and their family and also to Vi's family. Vi had lived in Foxton for the last few years and we have good memories of her when she and several others of us turned mountains of sugar into coconut ice, fudge and other sweets for the School Gala Day sweet stall which was a very popular occasion in the past. From memory each family (or was it child) brought along a 3lb bag of sugar and with the big school roll it was a lot of sugar!

CEMETERY RD. WALKING TRACK.
In the storm on December 11th when we had over an inch of rain in half an hour the track was badly damaged and the M.D.C. have yet to repair it. We continue to niggle away for an extension but have been told that if the community raises $3000 the M.D.C. will contribute $15,000. A $100 raffle will shortly be underway and funding applied for through pub charities.

SANSON CLUB
We wish to thank the Club for the Barbeque they put on, on December 19th for our lighting up party. We were rapt with the number of people who came along to the Library afterwards to have coffee and Christmas cake with us.

RECYCLING CENTRE
Thanks are due to Daniel Deane for cleaning up the mess that residents made at the centre. Must have been a lot of big Christmas presents judging by the amount of cardboard blowing around! And as for the bottles WELL! Some artistic person found it necessary to display his art on the door of the Telephone Exchange and we suggest to him or her to call in at the library and pick up a form to enter in the Telephone book front cover competition. This person's artwork is superior to some of the covers we have had over the years.

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
After a few hiccups we are back in action and look forward to seeing you. Our next book change is on Wednesday February 15th and we welcome anyone able to come along and help at 10.30 am. To new residents this service is free to all and our opening hours are
Monday 10 am to 12md. Tuesday 2pm to 4pm. Thursday 10am to 12md
Friday 2pm. to 4pm and Saturday 11am to 1pm.
Remember our photo copying service at 10cents per copy.
The Library will be closed on Waitangi Day February 6th

SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
The next meeting of the committee is on Wednesday February 1st at 7 30pm in the Library.
All residents are welcome to attend.

CAVY CLUB
The next Guinea Pig show will be held in the Community Hall on February 11th. This club is holding their National Show in the hall this Easter.
The hall diary for this year is filling up fast so if you have a function for which you need a venue get in early and phone Del 329 3674. Individual quotes given.

SANSON WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
Next meeting will be held in the supper-room of the Community Hall on 7th February at
1 30pm. They are a very friendly group and are always keen to welcome new members. There will be a Folk Art demonstration. Contact number is Margaret on 323 8583

LOST!
A very friendly tortoiseshell cat has gone missing from 2 Dundas Rd. If she has made herself at home at your place could you please contact Kim on 329 3432
Don't forget the Rongotea Lion's Monster Auction and Gala Day at the Rongotea Sportsground on Waitangi Day. If you have goods to offer contact Chris on 3293520 or Roger on 3248608 and they will be picked up on Tuesday evening.
Finally it is good to notice all the new businesses in the village and we ask residents to support them. The Sheepskin Shop reports that they are doing good trade with their haberdashery and knitting wool etc. Craig Berquist has started up a new business in the Caltex workshop called Hiway Auto and Tyre Service phone number 329 3601. We appreciate having a Fruit and Vegetable shop open again and Lisa's opening hours are Monday to Friday 11am to 5 30pm.
