Sanson Snippets
THE SHEEPSKIN SHOP is the sponsor of this month's Snippets.
Have you been in there lately? Chris and Sandy will take pleasure
in showing you their great range of items suitable for presents,
New Zealand paua jewellery, possum and merino products and hand
knit jerseys, sheepskin rugs and slippers and what really took
my eye sheepskin dogs! For the knitwits like myself there is a
great range of wool and patterns plus a large selection of haberdashery.
I can't possibly mention all that you will find there so do go
and have a look for yourself. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
And while the wintry weather makes us contemplate long evenings
spent in front of the T.V. with our knitting, those of us who
knit blankets for the Russian orphanages are always happy to receive
any scraps of wool surplus to your requirements. Last winter I
was generously donated several cartons of wool that have been
put to good use. Wool can be left at the Library.
THE POWER OF ADVERTISING.
We were very pleased to hear that the lost duck advertised last
month has been reunited with its owner. Glad to see that the Snippets
are read!
Sadly, a young pale tabby kitten that had been hit by a car in
Dundas Rd. was taken to a resident's home by the motorist responsible.
Unfortunately it did not survive and has been buried. It was wearing
a red flea collar so if you have lost a kitten answering this
description you now know its fate. While cats can be a problem
dogs are a bigger nuisance. There is a brown boxer type dog complained
about wandering in Phillips St. If it is yours please keep it
at home. A trap has been set for it and if it is caught it will
cost you to get it out of the pound.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we discussed the on going problem of cars
using Phillips St. and the Hotel car park as a means of avoiding
the Junction corner. This is causing quite a bit of consternation
to residents as it is such a narrow street (aren't they all?)
and the speed of these cars is worrying. We discussed speed humps
as a solution but the cost of these is astronomical. We are still
looking for a solution. A request has been made to Transit N.Z.
for piping similar to that at the Pedestrian Refuge Shelter to
be placed at the traffic island crossing between the Hotel and
Ag Traders. We have asked for more rubbish bins near the playground
in the hopes that rubbish will end up in them rather than in the
gutter to block the drains. And for those residents who dispose
of their household garbage into the street bins please shout yourselves
to official bags
10 for $10 at Caltex! Our next meeting is on June 28th in the
Library at 7pm.

For all hall bookings ring Del on 329 3674. The diary is filling
up with bookings as far ahead as December. Individual quotes given.
We had hoped to have a working bee to repaint the new cladding
but winter has caught up with us. We have a constant problem with
people smoking outside the hall and just dropping their cigarette
butts willy-nilly. As a non-smoker I find it offensive to have
to pick up after them and all our No Smoking signs have been stolen.
I wonder why?
We have heard that several residents have had a trip to hospital
lately. We hope that you are all on the improve and that new hip
of yours, Pam, is working satisfactorily.
Neighbourhood Support
Many of us are concerned about the level of graffiti, vandalism,
petrol siphoning etc that goes on around the village. While we
are aware that there is not much for youngsters to do, we are
also aware that when they wander aimlessly they tend, rightly
or wrongly to get the blame for actions that they may be entirely
innocent of. We have evidence that the damage done at Rainbow
Outdoor Furniture was done by outsiders though I have heard the
accusations leveled against local youth.
So with the help of the Police a meeting has been arranged in
the supper room of the Community Hall for 7.30 p.m. on Thursday
June 8th. In attendance will be Chris Whitmore of Feilding Police
and Chris Craig of the Bulls Police and Joanne Hartley of Neighbourhood
Community Support.
We are hoping to get more help with the night patrols and if any
of the young lads are interested in being involved we would be
delighted.
PLEASE do come along and let us all make our village a lot safer
place to live!
A big thank you to Caltex Sanson and Junction Motels for their
very generous donations towards our night watchmen's mobile phones!
And while on the subject of generosity we thank Matt Ryan of Construction
Services Electrical for his donation of photocopy paper. When
he dropped it off to my home he also sorted out what to him was
a minor electrical problem, but was a source of great concern
to me. Thank You Matt.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
At last we have our computer installed with wireless broadband
and residents are invited to come along and check it out. There
will be no charge for it except where files are downloaded and
printed. Also there will be a small charge for sending E-mails.
Customers will have to bear with us as we are on a steep learning
curve in its use though training is being provided for us. If
you have not yet got a computer and are thinking about purchasing
one this is an opportunity for you to see if computing is for
you.
Our next book change is Wednesday June 14th and we welcome anyone
who cares to come along and give a hand at 10.30 that morning.
Remember our photo copying service at 10cents per A4 page. We
are considering purchasing a laminator too as we believe that
there could be a demand for it.
To the person who put that very overdue library book through the
slot thank you and we would love to see you in person. Our volunteers
would love to see more borrowers come through the door. We have
a couple of hundred people enrolled but some of them we haven't
seen for months.
Next school holidays start on June 30th and we anticipate our
Holiday Programme will be held from July 3rd to the 7th. This
is frightening how fast the year is going!!
SANSON CLUB
Attention all Club Members! The A.G.M. of your club will be held
on June 25th at 3pm. New members always welcome.
