SANSON
SNIPPETS
AUGUST 2007
This months Snippets comes to
you courtesy of Shirley and David Pickles. Shirley and David wish
to thank everybody for their loving support during Davids
illness and his long six months spell in hospital. To their neighbours
in particular and all who phoned, texted, sent cards, visited
and made enquiries and gave practical assistance with lawnmowers
and car problems. A very special mention to Mary Matenga and the
Sanson Club!
Living in a small community like Sanson
has its problems with many facilities being unavailable
in the village itself but what we lack is more than compensated
by the caring, sharing love and support from the local people
in times of illness, need and stress. David is making slow steady
progress towards recovery.
To you all thank you very much!
CONDOLENCES
It is sad to acknowledge the passing
of a good friend and there are many in our community who will
miss Carol Swan who passed away earlier this month. Carol was
a very community-minded person who will be sorely missed at the
Library and also at the Sanson School where she spent many happy
hours with the children helping them with their craftwork. Children
attending the library holiday programme will remember her as Aunty
Carol. When her great niece and nephew Brianna and Connor were
little, she took a full part in Play Centre activities.
And sadly we have learnt that Eric
Henshaw has passed away in Auckland. Several weeks ago I attended
a farewell function for Vi and Eric at the Sanson Club, which
also celebrated their 65th Wedding anniversary. We extend our
sympathy to the families of these two people.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we emphasized
to our liaison councillor our frustrations at the services that
we receive in our village. In particular the lack of footpaths,
the state that the contractors have left the Cemetery Rd. drain
in and the antics of the Fulton Hogan workers whose wages, we
the ratepayers are paying. Concerns that in the village we have
a piped sewerage system yet there are residents who rely on septic
tank systems! We are in the twenty first century after all. We
get regular complaints about the state of the Public Toilets.
This problem has been partly solved by changing the contractor
responsible for keeping them clean. Funding for new toilets is
available and it is just a question of where they and perhaps
an information centre are to be sited. Local Body Elections are
coming up in October and in November a new community committee
will be elected. Think about getting involved and come along and
see how this committee functions. We will have a Meet the Candidates
meeting in the Community Hall in mid September. We hope to have
candidates for the Mid Central Health Board present too.
Next Community
Committee will be held in the Library on Wednesday August 22nd
at 7 30 pm. All Welcome.
DOGS!
Are you aware that the Sanson Domain
(aka the Rec) is a designated exercise area for dogs? If you are
walking your dog up the walking track please have it on a leash.
You may know that your dog is harmless but not everybody shares
that view. Plans are currently underway for the extension of the
track so hopefully by next summer??!!
For hall
bookings phone Del on 3293674. Individual
quotes given.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Where oh where are all the bookworms
in the village? We have lost so many of our regular borrowers
lately we are getting quite perturbed. We think we have a good
service with plenty of variety for you to choose from. We see
very few of the children these days and we hope it is not just
play stations and computers that are keeping them away. We also
have a large selection of jigsaws suitable for all ages. Internet
and
E-mail services are also available.
We have Google Earth installed and we would love people to come
and go exploring on it. Probably the best-used machine in the
library is the photocopier!
Photocopying is 10c per A4 page and
20 per A3 page, Laminating 50c per page. Great for keeping those
favourite knitting patterns and recipes readable. We have our
next book change at 10 30am on Wednesday 15th August and if you
would like to come along and help we would be pleased to see you.
YOUNG PEOPLE
If you are perturbed by the behaviour
of some youngsters on bikes riding recklessly with no regard for
the traffic on Dundas Rd. please just ring Bulls Police and let
them sort them out. We do want these kids to survive childhood!
REQUESTS
Have you got an old agitator washing
machine you want to part with? Kim on phone 3293432 would love
to hear from you. Kim is also looking for a tumbler drier and
a portable fence unit.
If you have any requests ring Del
on phone 3293674
OUR REQUESTS ANSWERED!
Ann on 3293733 thanks those kind people
who provided her with old panty hose for her stuffed toys. And
I would like to thank all those her gave me wool for my blankets.
I am almost over whelmed by peoples generosity.
REAL ESTATE
Its very interesting watching
the real estate market in the village with some good results recently.
If you are thinking of buying or selling Marion of Harcourts
Real Estate will be keen to hear from you. Marion enjoys living
here and is very committed to getting the best deal she can for
her clients. She can be contacted on phone 3293954
When we came out of the Library at
9 pm last Wednesday night there was a fox terrier dog loose in
Dundas Rd. Lambing is in full swing now and all dogs should be
secure on their own property. It is an offence to let them wander
and impoundment is not cheap!
New to the village? Have you found
the recycling center behind the Library? Anything non recyclable
should be placed in an official blue bag which can be purchased
from Caltex and put out at your gate on Monday mornings. When
Monday is a holiday the pick-up day is Wednesday.
Thats it for month as I am now
just waffling on trying to fill up this page!
If you have any items of interest
please let me know.
