SANSON SNIPPETS

May 2007

This month's Snippets come to you courtesy of Marion of Harcourt's Real Estate. Marion who resides in this village brings a fresh approach to buying and selling homes so if you are considering moving on she is the person to contact. Marion can be contacted on
phone 329 3954 or freephone 0800 210 444.

And while on the subject of moving on our volunteers at the COMMUNITY LIBRARY are alarmed at the way our patronage has fallen off. Does nobody read anymore? Several off our regulars have shifted out of the village and it is disheartening to sit at the library for two hours and see nobody. We know that some residents go to Feilding Library but we also have full access to all they have to offer including internet services, e-mail, photo copying, laminating and masses of jigsaw puzzles. So why not patronize your local library? We have a selection of gardening, cooking and many other non fiction subjects as well as mysteries, romances in both normal print and large print. Everything is free with the exception of photo copying and laminating.
Hours are
Monday and Thursday 10am to 12midday. Tuesday and Friday 2pm.to 4pm.
Saturday 11am to 1pm

During the holidays we ran a successful holiday programme for the children and we thank the mothers who came along to help.

RECYCLING CENTRE
For those who don't know the recycling centre is behind the Library and there is access from Burt St. Over Easter we were disgusted to find household rubbish blowing around. This was all stuff that should have been disposed of in the weekly Council collection. Great pieces of polystyrene, a bag of window glass, broken tiles, etc were just dumped and this is a no!no! If you have enough money to buy expensive items that come encased in polystyrene you can afford a Council rubbish bag that can be purchased at the Caltex Service Station. Please consider Daniel who is responsible for keeping the centre tidy!

SANSON WATER SUPPLY.
Hopefully the upgrading of the restrictors in the water supply will be completed soon. By now everybody should have installed a tank sufficient to hold at least one day's allocation of 1 cubic meter. This work seems to have been going on for too long but there have been difficulties finding several of the tobys. In my case the lads have dug a hole in my lawn looking for it and seemed disbelieving when I told them where to find it. Unfortunately it has been tar sealed over but though I am not connected to the supply they still have to locate it. Residents who think the M.D.C. should upgrade the whole system should be made aware of the cost to ratepayers and be thankful we have a scheme at all which is more than Rongotea has with a bigger population than Sanson.

FREE KITTENS!
Donny Wilson on phone 329 3538 has two kittens (sex unknown) to give away. One is a tabby and the other a black and white. These will be great mousers as their mother is a renowned hunter.

Sally Hughes had a nil response to her request for men's ties for her craftwork. She can be contacted on phone 329 3823
CONDOLENCES
We extend our sympathy to Geoff and Margie Connelly and family on the passing of Geoff's mother on Anzac Day. And the Sanson Club's Sunshine Lady, Mrs. June Tricker will also be missed by her many friends. June had been involved in many organizations over her life time including Girl Guides, R.S.A. and Women's Institute. Among her interests was making knee blankets for the War Veteran's home in Levin.
We were sorry to hear that once again our stalwart Library volunteer Carol Swan has been admitted to hospital and we wish her all the best for her recovery.

ANZAC DAY
Once again there was a good turnout on this important day. And the weather was kind to us this year. After the solemnity of the service, meeting up with friends and former residents who return for the service adds to the occasion. The address by Sgt Tim Jordan on his attendance at the 90th Gallipolli Commemoration was very moving. We are so fortunate to have the Feilding Brass Band come along and supply the music.

CHARITY CONCERT
The Clefs and Friends will be performing all the hit songs of the 60's and 70's at the Feilding Civic Centre on 12th May at 7 30pm. Tickets are available at the Feilding Information Centre. Proceeds go to St. John Feilding.
Should be a great night out if this is your sort of music!

I have a request to make for wool for my blankets that I knit for Moldovan orphans. If you have any scraps I will be pleased to receive them either at my home or can be left at the Library. Thank you in anticipation!
Ann on phone 329 3733 requires old panty hose or stockings for stuffing for soft toys.

BAD BEHAVIOUR.
This is not confined to the youngsters either. Chris at the Sheepskin Shop was disgusted to find that the brass doorknob and plate from their front door had been stolen overnight. Looks like a professional job or somebody renovating an older home and wanting to add a bit of class to it. If you have any information they would be pleased to hear from you. Phone 329 3401. Despite the best efforts of our night watch there has been a burglary and one attempted burglary recently. A lad on a bicycle uplifted solar lights from a home in Phillips St. He evidently hasn't the wit to realize that he was leaving tyre marks behind him. Is this the same lad who tipped over a birdbath too? Some time back solar lights were found in Hedges St and brought to my place by the night watch. Many of these were claimed but there are still seven stuck in my garden waiting to be claimed.
As for the DOGS! The dog that crossed the main highway with no regard to the traffic is lucky to be alive and when it followed me home and menaced me I rang the dog ranger but still it is wandering. If you are the person responsible for this dog please do something about it before we have a tragedy here.
A resident in Hedges St. is ready with a baseball bat should he surprise the low life who throw shopping bags full of rubbish over his back fence. Is this another skinflint who doesn't want to pay for a rubbish bag?

SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Next meeting will be held in the Library on Wednesday 23rd of May at 7.30pm.

Buying or selling property? Phone Marion our local agent on 329 3954!
