Sanson
Snippets

October 2007
This months
Snippets comes to you courtesy of Peter and Pam Frecklington who
are long time village residents. Thank you Peter and Pam for your
support!
At last we have had some good weather and I dont know about
your garden but I have had a lot of pleasure out of mine. I have
had a couple of young guys rearranging my property, demolishing
hedges and building fences and if you are wanting fencing done
I can warmly recommend them. Contact numbers are Mark 021 2106957
or Heath 021 1565761
Feel free to have
a look at the work they have done at my place.
It is disappointing that a resident has chosen to put out a flier
written in very uncomplimentary terms about a local tradesman.
I have received a number of calls from satisfied people who he
has worked for and for myself I have always found him to be courteous,
helpful and work he has done for me has been of a very high standard.
Next year we intend
to make a list of local tradesmen and handymen (and women) who
are able to come to our assistance with those jobs we are unable
to do for ourselves. So if you are one of these clever people
please let me know and you will be added to the list.
MEET THE CANDIDATES MEETING.
We were pleased
with the turnout at this meeting and hope that it assisted those
of you who came to select the candidates best suited to our needs.
Dont forget to fill in your voting paper and return it in
the reply paid envelope.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Next meeting will
be held in the Library on Wednesday 24th of October at 7.30pm.
This will be our
triennial election for a new committee so if you feel you have
something to offer please come along. New residents particularly
welcome!
At our last meeting
we discussed the Cemetery Rd. drain yet again and the new subdivision
going up in Cemetery Rd.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
We apologise that
we were unable to open last Saturday. Our usual volunteer was
unable to attend and the stand-in volunteer fell ill and there
was no one else available. We are always looking for someone who
can fill in at short notice. Our next bookchange is on Wednesday
October10th at 10.30am and if you are able to help we will be
pleased to see you.
We didnt have
a Holiday Programme these holidays as there was a nil response
from mothers offering to help.
Recently one of our residents had a traffic problem and was unable
to get help from either Bulls or Feilding Police, so went to the
weigh station and lo and behold his complaints were not only listened
to but action was promptly taken against the offending motorist.
Melissa, a teenage, reliable secondary school pupil is looking
for baby sitting work. She can be contacted on phone 3293155
A ring has been found at the recycling centre. If it is yours
you can collect it at the Library by describing it.
RECYCLING CENTRE
Disappointing to
see that once again somebody has left a carton of rubbish at the
centre. I had a rummage through it to try and find the identity
of the person who had left it but all I found was a childs
book with TO ANTHONY FROM GRANDMA AND GRANDAD XMAS 2004 in it.
If you are Anthony or his parents we suggest that you recycle
your rubbish in to an official bag.
SANSON SCHOOL AGRICULTURAL AND CRAFT DAY
will be held on
Friday October 26th. This is a great day out to see the quality
of the craftwork and the effort that the children put in to training
their lambs and calves. The calf judging will be from 10 am onwards.
There will be entertainment from the children, a sausage sizzle
and all in all, this is an occasion for residents to come along
and show their support for our local school.
SANSON ENTHUSIASTS
This group has had
three meetings so far with the emphasis on depicting Sanson as
the Gateway to the Manawatu. Various proposals have been put forward
for new toilets and an information centre at the current site
of the present inadequate toilets. The next meeting has been postponed
until the end of November so the in coming members of the Manawatu
District Council can have a workshop meeting to discuss funding
etc.
SANSON COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL SWIMMING POOL
It is envisaged
that the pool should be opened by Labour Weekend provided that
the weather has warmed up enough and season passes will be available
when school reopens at the end of the holidays.
.
Recently I visited
Mrs. Molly Henson and was intrigued by a couple of old photos
that she had on display. One was a Sanson School class photo dated
1932 and the other, we think was a Queen Carnival photo taken
at the time of the 1937 Coronation. Molly was kind enough to lend
them to me and James ORegan scanned them both so we can
add them to our collection of old Sanson Photos. Molly was able
to name most of the children in the class photo and some of those
in the group photo which had been taken in the old Sandon Hall.
If any residents have old photos which they are willing to lend
to us James and I will take care of them and return them to their
owners along with a scanned copy. We already have quite a collection
of old school photos and sports teams. Anything pertaining to
the old Manawatu County Council will be very welcome.
I look forward to
hearing from some of you. Del on phone 3293674
HALLOWEEN
This day is coming
up fast again and it has been suggested to me that if you welcome
children trick and treating, you tie a ribbon to your letterbox.
I know that there will not be one on mine!
