Sanson Snippets

SEPTEMBER 2007

This month’s Snippets comes to you courtesy of Kim Shirley who lives in the old Sanson School which she has transformed from a dilapidated and vandalized building into a lovely home. Kim’s home is also known as The Reptile Farm where she successfully rears turtles.

CONGRATULATIONS!

To Andrew Feldon on winning the award for the best coffee in New Zealand! The publicity Streetwise Coffee has received has really raised Sanson’s profile in the national press and on T.V. News. For the Sanson enthusiasts group looking for a theme to promote the village this could be the idea they have been searching for!

LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS.

The Sanson Community Committee has organized a MEET THE CANDIDATES meeting to be held in the hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 19th September. Present will be Mayoral, Horizons, Health Board and Ward candidates and this will be your chance to listen to them and form your own opinions as to who you think will be our best representatives. We hope that residents will come along and ask questions about the things that concern them. This will be good opportunity for new residents to meet the locals. Supper will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting.

.

SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE

At our last meeting we discussed the ongoing problems with the Cemetery Rd. drain. It appears that a truck has backed into the sump at the entrance to the lane and dislodged it. Though Excell has been notified it has not been repaired as yet. This has been a botch up job from first to last and it is disappointing that ratepayers good money has been spent here.

Dogs were also an issue and if you have any complaints about roaming or continually barking dogs please ring the M.D.C. on phone 323-0000 and ask for the dog ranger. One of our residents rang me in great distress yesterday after her chickens were attacked by a fox terrier and we wonder if this is the same dog seen going through the rubbish tins in the village. If it is your dog, shame on you and you can expect a visit from the dog ranger. We also have heard of cats going missing and suspicion rests on dogs once again.

After the Local Body Elections in October there will be an election for the Community Committee and if you feel you have something to offer do come along. I have been secretary for far too long and would love to hand over the reins to someone else.

Next meeting to be held in the Library at 7.30pm, Wednesday September 26th. All Welcome

For all hall booking contact Del on phone 3293674

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY

We are pleased to report that we have had a few more members join but we could do with a lot more. Also the computer is being put to good use too. Internet and E-mail services are available. Some really interesting books in our last Feilding consignment and we wonder why some residents go to Feilding for their reading when we can supply it here. Think about your carbon footprint! We will run a HOLIDAY PROGRAMME in the first week of the school holidays provided somebody offers to help us. It will run from 10.30am to midday each morning. Offers of help to Del on phone 3293674.

Library hours

Monday and Thursday 10am to midday, Tuesday and Friday 2pm to 4pm.

Wednesday 7pm.to 8pm. Saturday 11am to 1pm.

Laminating and photo copying services available.

We have not had a very good response to our Wednesday night opening but will persevere. Please note it will not open on Wednesday 19th September as we expect you will all be coming along to the Hall for the MEET THE CANDIDATES Meeting!

RECYCLING CENTRE
This facility has been upgraded after several complaints about access and dumping of unauthorized rubbish. Some kind soul even left a mattress there! WHY? The rule is if there is a stated place for it you may leave it otherwise dispose of it yourself. Residents will now have to flatten their cardboard boxes down to fit them in the new container. We noticed that newspapers had been dumped in the crate instead of the container. The Centre is so well used it is a pity to abuse it. And while on the subject of rubbish it has been noted that some residents use the rubbish bins in Dundas Rd, to dispose of their household rubbish. How mean is that1 Rubbish bags are available from Caltex $12.50 for 10.

Request
Kim requires penicillin milk. If you can help please give her a call on phone 3293432

FUN FOR THE CHILDREN
Sanson School is holding a disco for primary age children at 7pm Friday night the 14th September in the Community Hall. Food and drink available. Cost $2 Professional D.J. in attendance

Once again that’s it for this month so get out and enjoy the lovely spring weather!
