Sanson
Snippets

Aug 2008
This month's Snippets
comes to you courtesy of Egmont Tanneries who own and operate
the Sheepskin Shop. Have you visited them recently? As Father's
Day is rapidly approaching they have many specials suitable for
gifts that will keep dad warm during these cold winter days. There
are slippers from $41 per pair and Aran hand knit cardigans and
jerseys priced from $95. Other specials I noted are pure merino
gloves at $20 for two pairs, a set of merino gloves and scarf
for $40 or merino gloves and socks for $40.These specials will
continue while stocks last.
Have you remembered that the Sheepskin Shop is also the local
agent for Rawleigh's products?

SCHOOL
The duck race down the Makino stream resulted in a windfall of
$500 petrol vouchers for David Green whose ticket number 986 was
first home. The mountain bike was won by Talea Sunnex with ticket
number 381.
Third prize of a gift basket went to Karen Craigie with ticket
number 396.
The school thanks all residents who supported this fund raiser.
The swimming pool committee met recently and is still looking
for clean 20 litre containers to store chlorine. We had a nil
response from residents re heating the pool for winter swimming.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY
How the time rolls by! We change our books again on Wednesday
August 6th and invite anyone who has an hour or so to spare to
come and help at 10.30am on that day. Several of our borrowers
have very overdue books and despite reminders have failed to return
them so if you're one of the guilty ones please bring them back
and get some more. If the library is closed there is a return
book shute by the door. If you haven't yet joined the Library
remember that it is free to all and we not only have books, we
also have jigsaws for all ages. The computer is being well used
as is the photo copier. Thank you to Suzanne who ran a holiday
programme for the children. And thanks to the parents who came
along to help.
RECYCLING
CENTRE.
Please don't dump your rubbish here! There
is now a surveillance camera set up overlooking the centre so
if you are thinking of dumping rubbish remember that big brother
may be watching you!

ARCHIVES.
We are endeavouring to build up an archive of interesting Sanson
photos. We have a fairly extensive collection of Sanson School
photos and are looking for more. We have been lent many old time
photos belonging to Ivan Staite and James O'Regan has scanned
and printed them for our collection. James has also put them on
to a C.D. I had a lovely afternoon with Ivan and Jude recently
and now I just need him to identify as many of the people in the
photos he can for me. This collection will eventually go into
the Library. Molly Henson also lent me a photo of Sanson people
at a Queen Carnival many years ago and this is in our collection
too. We would love to get hold of photos taken at the Centenary
Celebrations in 1978. Please, if you have any that you consider
interesting of the early days please let us know! All care taken.
STUFFED
GOOSE.
The power of the Internet! I had an interesting e-mail from a
woman from Porirua who googled Stuffed Goose and came up with
the Snippets where I complained about someone leaving a stuffed
goose at the Recycling Centre. She was looking for one for their
local show at the Porirua Little Theatre in October and sadly
I had to inform her that it had gone to the dump. Just goes to
show that one man's junk is another man's treasure!
Have you checked out David Pickles sanson net? His weather site
is very interesting also the cameras etc. There are all sorts
of interesting things about our village and the many businesses
here.

COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
It is pleasing to see interested residents turn out in this cold
weather and take an interest in what goes on in our village. At
our last meeting we discussed the dumping of rubbish in some of
our grassed lanes. This causes problems to the contractors who
mow these lanes. We have heard of rubbish restricting the drains
and flooding peoples back lawns. Council has been asked to spray
and replenish the lime on the original section of the walking
track on Cemetery Rd. We have also complained about the hit and
miss weed spraying around the village by the contractors. James
and I have been asked to attend a stakeholders meeting at the
Council to talk about how we envisage the district in ten years
time. As you can imagine we have a lot of ideas to contribute.
The Committee meetings are open for all to attend and if you have
anything to offer please be sure that you will be made welcome
at the next meeting which will be held in the Library on Wednesday
August 27th at 7.30pm.
CONGRATULATIONS
To Mrs. Pat Walls who is celebrating her 80th birthday on August
15th!!
Happy Birthday Pat!
With all this awful
weather all around us let's think positively, after all as the
poet said 'If winter comes, can spring be far behind!'
