SANSON
SNIPPETS
FEBRUARY 2008
This month the Snippets come to you courtesy
of Jocelyn and Keith Harris life long residents in our circulation
area, thank you for your sponsorship!
Hard to believe that we are now well in to 2008 with most things
up and running again.
I had a great Christmas in Palmerston North with my family and
was jolly pleased to come home at the end of the day. Lovely to
enjoy the little great grand children but I really appreciate
my own quiet home! We have been blessed with wonderful weather
but the farmers and we gardeners are getting desperate for rain.
The problems with the break down of the village piped water supply
are a real worry to those of us who do not have large storage
tanks. Water tankers are carting water to the town's reservoir
and residents are asked to use water responsibly. Hopefully by
the time you read this, the problem will be sorted and in the
meantime a water tanker is on standby at the Shell Garage for
residents to fill containers for their personal use.
TOTAL FIRE BAN
With this dry weather there is a complete fire ban and we have
been amazed at the number of illegal fires that have been lit.
One person told me that he was not aware of the ban which I believe
was well advertised.
THANKS!
I forgot in December to thank those of you who have given old
ties for Sally, panty hose for Ann's soft toys and wool for the
blankets for the Moldovan orphanages. I have lots of wool at the
moment and am very grateful to all of you but in particular to
Wayne and Andrea for their contributions. I am always happy to
receive more as I have other knitters to share it with.
A.Croad of Opiki won the blanket raffled to raise funds for the
shipping to Moldova.
CONDOLENCES
While the festive season was a happy time for most of us we note
with sadness the passing of several residents. Rob Knight who
lived in Sanson for several years died suddenly at his home in
Feilding. Then Daniel Klok who many residents will have known
as a valuable employee at the Shell Shop passed away aged only
29 years. Far too young! Roger Henson had a long battle with cancer
to which he finally succumbed and we were all shocked to hear
of the passing of Whata Kearama far too soon. To the families
and friends of these people we extend our sympathy.
On a happier note Diane Anderson is much improved and it is lovely
to see her with a head of CURLY HAIR! after all those months of
chemotherapy.
SANSON COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL POOL
The pool has been well used this summer and we thank the volunteers
who give up their time to keep the water at the right (I don't
know what the word is!) and the whole complex including the toilets
clean. Some users have had problems accessing the pool with their
key card and from what I can gather the cards need to be kept
dry, not left in the car glove box, (they get over heated) and
definitely not dropped as the magnet in them can be affected.
Key cards are available for casual use from Del phone 3293674.
FOR HALL BOOKINGS PHONE DEL 3293674.
INDIVIDUAL QUOTES GIVEN
SANSON SCHOOL
School commences for the year on Monday February 4th!
Those of us who have been associated with the school for many
years are pleased to welcome back Jude O'Keefe as the new principal.
She has done wonders for Bainesse School and it is great coup
to have her back in Sanson. All residents are invited to visit
the school on Monday February 4th at lunchtime. Bring a picnic
lunch and something to throw on the barbeque if you wish. Sausages
will be free for the school children. It is intended that the
tennis court will be left set up for residents to have a game
on the weekends and after school. After such strenuous exercise
a dip in the pool sounds like a good idea!
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Our next meeting will be in the Library at 7.30pm on Wednesday
the 27th February and you are all welcome. We have several issues
with the M.D.C that we will be pursuing this year and we are always
keen to have resident's input. We are anxious to know what progress
is happening towards the new toilets as the present ones have
been proved to be woefully inadequate through this holiday period.
The walking track is another project that seems to have lost momentum.
We have rung the Council to have the track sprayed but at time
of writing this has not happened. Remember that the committee
is your committee.
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
We are so happy to see a few more residents taking advantage of
the Library service. We have still a few very overdue books and
while it is not nice to name the guilty borrowers they know who
they are and will soon be receiving an account for payment from
Feilding Library. It is exasperating chasing children for books
and they must learn to be responsible.
Remember our photocopying service 10c per A4 page and 20c per
A3 page. We have purchased a new laminator so this service is
up and running again at 50c per A4 page.
Our next book change is on Febuary 20th at 10.30pm and we appreciate
the help that we are given on this day.
RECYCLING CENTRE.
Here I go again with the same old complaints! Rubbish is being
left there that should go in the wheelie bin or the Council blue
bag. We are so lucky to have this centre. When I went to Feilding
this morning the streets are awash with recyclables waiting to
be collected. It looks appalling. Be thankful for what we have
and don't abuse it.
We noticed that some people still put out their blue bags on Anniversary
Day. When Monday is a holiday the pick up is on the following
Wednesday.
I read a good tip for gardeners for a use for polystyrene. Use
it as a base at the bottom of your pot plants and it will hold
water. I haven't as yet tried it but intend to.
John of Highway One Painters is about to paint the Golden Galleon
building and wants residents to know that he is supplying the
water for water blasting and not using the town supply!.
Useful numbers to remember.
