Sanson
Snippets

July 2008
This month's
Snippets comes to you courtesy of Feilding New World owned and
operated by Neil Hogg. As a sight impaired person I enjoy shopping
in this clean well laid out shop where there is always a staff
member willing to help me find that elusive article. New World
is truly a supermarket as they also stock a lot of non food items
at competitive prices and there is the added incentive of using
your Fly Buy card.
Good parking too!
SANSONCOMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we were pleased with the turnout of residents
on such a wet night. The naming of the two service lanes turned
out to be an interesting exercise with fourteen names suggested.
However Oppatt got the most votes for the lane behind Caltex and
Bradnock for the lane between Fagan St. and A'Court St. We will
now present these to the M.D.C. for their approval.
Next meeting in the Library at 7 30 pm on Wednesday July 23rd.
All Welcome!
SANSON
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Suzanne Tamblyn has offered to run a holiday programme for the
children in the second week of the school holidays. That is 10am
to midday from the14th to 18th July. This is free with all material
supplied by Feilding Library and we are always pleased to see
parents come along to help.
Good to see more and more residents taking advantage of our service.
We have several new subscribers and if you have not yet joined
please do so. It is a free service and we also have the photocopying
and laminating services available. Thank you to those of you who
came to help with our book change. Our computer is being used
by residents more and more and is also available to send e-mails
etc. Library hours are Monday and Thursday 10am to midday; Tuesday
and Friday 2pm to 4pm and Saturday 11am to 1pm. If you wish to
become a volunteer please give me a ring on 3293674.
CONDOLENCES
We note with sadness the passing of Brian Collier and send our
sympathy to his family. His funeral in Palmerston North was attended
by so many people that certainly the family made the right decision
to go against Brian's wishes to hold it at St Thomas's, and it
was fitting that his final committal service was held there in
the lovely little church which Brian had served so well for so
many years.
To those of you
struggling with health problems we send you best wishes.
To Richard and Heather all the best.
SANSON SCHOOL
The Principal Jude O'Keefe has been approached by Righthouse,
a subsidiary of Meridian Energy to erect a wind turbine in the
school's front field which will supply power to the school and
hopefully the swimming pool. Any surplus energy generated will
go into the national grid. The Turbine will be 11 metres high
and it is quieter than a heat pump, the noise rating being only
45 decibels. Permission has been granted from Ohakea Air Force
Base for its construction.
The swimming pool committee will meet in the school staff room
on Tuesday the 1st of July at 6.30pm and all residents are welcome
to attend. We are anxious to gauge what support we would receive
from residents to a proposal to heat the pool so it could become
a year round facility. The pool was very well used over the summer
and thanks go to the custodians and cleaners who have put in many
hours of voluntary time. The pool committee wishes to obtain clean
20 litre containers to store chlorine. If you are able to help
contact the school. Phone 3293768
We apologise for the late notice of this meeting.
Has any resident a mulcher which they would lend to the school
to clean up all the trees that have recently been pruned. Contact
Jude on 3293768
The school wishes to thank Suzanne and Wayne for their help with
plantings.
RECYCLING CENTRE
What a sight there on Friday afternoon after it appears that a
dog had gone through a rubbish bag that some thoughtless person
had left there. To the miscreant "Don't you know the rules?"
PURIFYING
WATER TANKS
Ann wants to hear from anyone interested in cheaply purifying
their water supply with hydrogen peroxide. Basically oxygenates
water and is more natural and cheaper than Janola. If four people
club together we can buy 5 litres each for less than $30 which
is much cheaper than chemist's prices. Phone Ann on 329 3733
And while on the subject of water if you have a problem with the
town water supply being discoloured etc. we suggest that you contact
the M.D.C. on 323 0000. No use just grizzling about it and we
have heard several complaints recently.

SUBMISSIONS
Answers to our submissions to the M.D.C. don't fill us with confidence,
with the exception of the Phillips St. footpath which will be
constructed after winter. For years we have asked for the widening
of Fagan St. from Dundas Rd. to the school and the M.D.C. will
yet again consider the traffic volumes, maintenance needs and
functionality (their words not mine) etc. Cemetery Rd. walking
track will be completed as funding permits. My understanding was
that the money we raised as a community was sufficient so we will
be taking that answer back to them.
That's it for this
month so keep warm during these winter days!
