Sanson
Snippets

MARCH 2008
This month the Snippets
comes to you courtesy of SHED BOSS who have been here in Sanson
for some time now. Several people have asked what is the building
being erected behind Weekend Craft. So I asked Kevin who told
me that it is a storage shed which he is building himself with
all components supplied by Shed Boss. Watch out for more developments
next year! So if you are looking to acquire more shed space visit
SHED BOSS for a quote. There is another example of their work
in Grace Street and another on the corner of Burt and Hedges St.

CONDOLENCES
We were sad to hear of the passing of Roy Absolom . Roy who celebrated
his 80th birthday recently had been in indifferent health for
some time but was able to travel to Hamilton recently with his
wife, Betty to attend the wedding of their grandson. A man with
a great sense of humour he will be sorely missed by his family
and friends. We send our sympathy to Betty, Rob and Carleen and
other members of his family.
WATER

SUPPLY.
Still no decent rain and it is a relief to know that a deeper
bore has been drilled in the Rangitikei River so the town water
supply should be assured. We are puzzled as to why all the restrictors
have not yet been replaced allowing some residents a bit more
than the trickle feed. We have had complaints of dirty water coming
through the system and have been assured that all is well now.
WALKING TRACK
Those of you who use the track for your exercise will have noticed
that the extension to the track has been started. At time of writing
it is past Morgan's home. I have asked the Council to please spray
the original track as it is getting over grown with weeds. I can't
understand why it is not sprayed when they do the roadside. Please
if you take your dog up the track PLEASE take a pooper scooper
with you. I intend to hang a bag containing plastic bags on the
bridge for your convenience. Just need to bang a nail in with
a hammer first!
HOLIDAY
Recently I spent three days in Nelson to attend the unveiling
of the Memorial Wall to the early immigrants as part of their
Anniversary Day Celebrations. My great great grandmother was on
the Fifeshire, the first immigrant ship into Nelson and her name
Mary Merideth is engraved on the wall. I stayed with my daughter
Ngaire and her husband at their Fountain Resort Motel and would
warmly recommend it to anyone, especially with children, for a
great place to stay. It is located on a quiet street with a swimming
pool, playground with a flying fox and just a short walk to Tahananui
beach. Phone 03 5485099
CURVES
Are you interested in losing weight with gentle exercise? Jocelyn
on phone 3293828 is keen to hear from anyone interested in car
pooling with her to Curves Gym in Feilding. See her notice in
the Notice Board.
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Thank you to those of you who came and helped us with our recent
book change. You are appreciated! And Maureen, thanks for the
muffins you made for our morning tea. We enjoyed them! We were
pleased to get some of our very overdue books back but there are
still a couple missing. We get confused when books are borrowed
from our library but are returned to Feilding. O.K. that's where
they belong but the cards remain in our system.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
As I am writing these notes before the February meeting I have
nothing to report but can assure you that the subject of the Public
Toilets will be mentioned there. The cleaning and servicing of
them is totally inadequate and we have been disgusted and embarrassed
by the complaints that have been made to us. The time that elapses
been making a complaint and action taken is upsetting especially
when sitting in the Library and watching people going in and out
and knowing that the loos are not up to scratch.
Our March meeting will be in the Library on Wednesday 27th at
7.30pm.
All Welcome.
ROAMING

DOGS
Please make sure that your dogs are not wandering. A sad case
of sheep worrying occurred recently due to fenced in dogs digging
their way out. Even the most seemingly placid dog is a menace
when thinking it is having a bit of fun rounding up sheep it all
goes to custard.

The swimming pool has been well used this summer and will remain
open for as long as the weather stays warm.
THE OLDEN DAYS 1964 -1974
Enclosed with this newsletter is an e-mail that I received from
Owen Harvey and I am sure that it will be of interest to many
residents whose children were at Sanson School during his time
as Principal.
Have you checked out www.sanson.net.nz yet?
Hi there
Here
is a snippet from my father - Owen Harvey - for your Sanson
Snippets page
Kind
regards Michael
1964-1974
These were the
years that the Harvey family lived in Sanson prior to
moving to Marton and finally to Wanganui. My family have many
happy
memories of our life in your community who soon made us a part
of a
vibrant and caring group of friends. Time of course has thinned
the
ranks of many that we knew during those years just as it has done
in our
family. Pat passed away on the 4th December 2006. Like me, the
family
look back with happy memories of the time we spent at the Sanson
School.
In particular I remember the family atmosphere we generated at
the
school with caring parents and children who wanted to succeed
plus of
course in those days innovated teachers. I often think of ex pupils
and
wonder how life has treated them and hope that their lives have
been
satisfying and fruitful. Some of my families fellow pupils may
like a
quick up date on where they are. Kevin went into retirement after
selling his car business in Tauranga but decided to go back into
the
work force and manage another car sales in Te Puke. Gerrard after
a
distinguished career in the Navy [M.B.E.] became C.E.O. of Blue
Lagoon
Cruises in Fiji and has recently taken up a position as Director
Yacht
Management Worldwide, Fraser Yachts, Fort Lauderdale, U.S.A. Jo-Anne,
qualified as a teacher and is now living in Melbourne. Michael
is living
in Wellington and is Manager of Visitor and Market Research at
the Te
Papa Museum. To all who may read this my perhaps belated thanks
to
those many residents of Sanson who helped to make the ten years
in your
community a time which generated many happy memories for Pat,
myself and
my family.
