Although the Sanson com-
munity committee says it
understands the Manawatu
District Councils perspective, it
does not accept the councils
decision to deny the townships
request for a community care-
taker.
As part of last years council
annual plan submissions pro-
cess, the committee put forward
the proposal due to contention
in the community with what is |
considered to be a lack of care
for the village.
"We are not happy with the
level of service that people who
do not live here provide, said
committee secretary Del
Parker.
One example presented was
roadside grass being cut, but
left to grow long up against the
power poles.
A community caretaker
would trim that to keep it tidy,
Ms Parker said.
Other examples were drains
blocking dining heavy rainfall |
which could be cleared more
quickly by a local than waiting
for contractors who service the
whole district; the poor con-
dition of the local cemetery in
the Christmas period prior to
the first submission; and the
state of the public toilets,
frequented by passing
travellers, but having to wait
for someone to come from Feild-
ing to fix the toilets if anything
goes wrong with them.
Photos supporting the
committees claims were sub-
mitted with the proposal |
Mrs Parker said she believes
part of the problem is the pro-
posal did not contain enough
information in the form of exact
costings, something they will
remedy for the upcoming sub-
mission.
We can see where they are
coming from, but we have every
intention of putting in another
submission, she said.
The districts council has said
it will look at reviewing the
details of its grounds and
maintenance contract next
year. |
