August
2009
This month's Snippets
comes to you courtesy of Kevin and Viv Withers who are now the
sole owners of Crazee Sundae. Opening hours have been extended
(7 30am to 5pm) and Viv says we can look forward to better things
to come! The lovely staff, Kenia, Michelle and Sarah, will be
pleased to greet you. Do come along and sample their delicious
food!
Once again the Caltex Service Station is in the news with the
second ram raid in recent months. This is not the only burglary
reported recently. A chain saw was stolen from a Cemetery Rd property
and a trailer from Burt St. One wonders whether these two thefts
are linked. Ross Vile is annoyed that the thief uplifting the
concrete blocks protecting the power pole on the corner of Fagan
and Hedges St has stolen the remaining two. These are painted
with the letters R.V.on them. If you know anything about their
whereabouts Ross will be pleased to hear from you. The rubber
mat and the coir mat from the hall entrance have also been uplifted.
Any suspicious activity needs reporting to the police at the time.
Neighbourhood Watch has worked well in the past and it just requires
us all to be vigilant. Neighbourhood
Watch
A meeting will be held in the Supper room of the Community Hall
at 7.30pm on Thursday August 6th. Please come along and see how
we can help ourselves. The Police and Bulls Fire Officers will
be in attendance. A light supper will be provided. NEW BUSINESS
More changes at Caltex! Craig has moved his tyre business to the
back of the workshop and CORNER
TREASURES
Bruce Johnson has opened up his business at the front. All sorts
of interesting goodies here for those of you who like to look
for a bargain. Collectables, Bric-a-brac and second hand furniture
also. We wish Bruce all the best in his new venture.
SANSON CLUB INC
Have you replied to your invitation to have mid winter Christmas
dinner at the Club? All residents are invited to come along and
enjoy the Club's hospitality. If you are new to the village this
is a good way to meet the locals.
SANSON SCHOOL NEWS
The school has been granted funding for a B.M.X. Track and this
will be installed in the near future. Later in the year the swimming
pool committee will hold a family hangi and you may read more
about this in the accompanying newsletter.
SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we discussed various issues. We have met with
Steve Butler of ISEE TECHNOLOGY and we are waiting for quotes
from him for security cameras to protect the swimming pool, the
memorial, the school and the community hall. There will need to
be fundraising for this but we have an initial sum which was donated
to us after a reunion held in the hall by the Young Farmer's Club.
We have not received any applications for funding from the Sunday
Market takings as yet. You may read about the M.D.C's proposals
for the hotel building in Suzanne Craig's accompanying newsletter.
It makes interesting reading. The next meeting of the committee
will be held in the Library at 7 30pm Wednesday August 27th All
welcome!
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
We had a good response to our Holiday Programme for the children
and we thank the parents who came to help. We all enjoyed ourselves
and the art work that the kids produced is all on display at the
Library thanks to Talea who arranged it. Our next book change
is on Wednesday August 12th at 10.30am We appreciate all the help
we can get on the day. If you have any particular request call
in to the Library and let us know. Library hours are Monday and
Thursday 10am to midday, Tuesday and Friday 2pm to 4pm and Saturday
11am to 1pm. We are gradually getting accustomed to our new photocopier.
Why does new technology have to be so complicated? However it
is a godsend as it double sides though I am not sure that I have
mastered that art yet! The computer is free to all unless printing
is done from it in which case it is 10cents per page. Photocopying
is 20cents for the first sheet and 15cents for each additional
sheet. Laminating is 50cents per page. We also have masses of
jigsaws for the addicts. Thank you to the person who lent me her
ewe to keep down my grass. I went away for the weekend and when
I came home was surprised and delighted to find that she had produced
triplets. They are all black and just beautiful! And finally our
condolences go to my good neighbour Pat Morrison whose husband
Kelvin (known as Joe) passed away on Sunday July 12th. Joe has
been a good friend to me over the years. Nothing was a problem
to Joe and he kindly taught me the art of backing my car into
my garage. His little dog Sally, who many of you will have seen
out and about with her mate Joe, also sorely misses him. For hall
bookings phone Del 3293674. Individual quotes given! See you at
the Neighbourhood Watch meeting at the hall on Thursday August
6th at 7.30pm!
