Sanson Snippets

December 2009

This month the Snippets comes to you courtesy of Peter Remnant of Brooklyne Motels and Camping Ground. These motels have six fully serviced units and the camping ground is available for both casual and permanent residents. Visitors are assured of a welcome. At the Brooklyne Tearooms the staff are getting to grips with the Postal Agency and ask customers to bear with them while they go through the learning curve. If you have a problem with your post box please let them know and if they are able to help they certainly will. While it is now a good walk to post mail on the up side it is jolly good exercise.
While out to post mail the other day I called in to the Sheepskin Shop to see what goodies they have for Christmas Presents. Sandy told me that there is something there for everybody from really lovely jewellery to merino caps and beanies, gloves and bedsocks and in their specials room there are footwear specials and just too many things to list here so do go and see for yourself. There are also some very good bargains in knitting wool.
I also called in on Edna at Presence in Sanson while down that end of the village and just loved the Christmas Grotto that she sets up every year. I was totally intrigued by her nail puzzle priced at $10 but Edna declined to show me how to solve this intriguing puzzle!
The displays in Passionz ‘s windows are a treat for the eye and this shop is worth having a browse around. If you are thinking of treating yourselves to new outdoor furniture both Rainbow Furniture and Weekend Craft have extensive displays to suit all pockets. We urge residents to shop locally and support our local shops as they support us.

SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
We have nearly wrapped up for this year, just a last meeting for committee members at my home on Wednesday 16th December. At our last meeting the Mayor Ian McKelvie attended in place of our liaison councilor Margaret Giles who is indisposed. We took the opportunity to complain about quite a few things that have been bugging many of us including the quality of the spraying and lawnmowing around the village. We are very grateful to Ed Hills who took it upon himself to spray the weeds on the walking track. It would have been completely overgrown without this work being done. We discussed the C.C.T.V.cameras that we hope to have installed at the hall/school complex shortly.
The new toilets are getting very close to completion and I am sure we will all be happy when the old inadequate toilets are removed. Congratulations to Donny Wilson who came up with the slogan LOOS 4 U 2 USE! Very succinct! And earned her theatre passes. We are still looking for help to paint the mural so if you have an artistic bent please let us know.

SANSON NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
I attended the funeral of Mrs. Pat Walls recently and was pleased to pay a tribute to Pat who as well as being a Justice of the Peace took an active interest in many of Sanson’s doings. Pat was the instigator of the Neighbourhood Watch, as we know it today. She and Ada Paul took it upon themselves to raise the money for phones, torches etc and organized some of our menfolk to patrol the streets at night and many businesses have benefited by their efforts. John Paul is still patrolling and has done so since Pat started it in 1996! Donations of over $200 were received at Pat’s funeral and we are very grateful to those donors.
If you are going to be away over the holidays do let your neighbour know or you can contact us and we will undertake to check your property each evening.

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Our last book change for the year will be on Wednesday the 16th of December. If you are able to come along and help we will be pleased to see you at 10 30am on that day. We will close for the holidays on Thursday 24th December and will reopen on Monday 17th January. Please feel free to ring either Heather on 3293558 or me on 3293674 if you require photocopying or some reading matter while we are closed.

LETTERBOXES
How I would hate to be the mailman trying to fit the mail in letterboxes stuffed with junk mail etc. etc. Please make his life a little easier by ensuring that your box is emptied regularly!!

RECYCLING CENTRE
What a disaster there on Monday last week when somebody who had used Van Lines to shift them just dumped all their rubbish at the recycling Centre. We fervently hope that the person delegated to remove it was able to find some form of identification amongst it so the culprit will get hit heavily in the pocket.
