Sanson
Snippets
Feb 2009
This month the
Snippets comes to you courtesy of Barry Daily the owner of Passionz
in the Golden Galleon building. Whilst having a browse in there
recently I was intrigued at the range of imported unique goods
that Barry specializes in. Are you intending to buy your loved
one a Valentine's Day present? Barry's gift baskets put together
for this special occasion may well fit the bill. Do go and have
a look!
What a joy to wake
up to rain this morning after all these hot days. For those of
you who love the heat this summer will be suiting you but for
me I long for cooler weather. The village has been relatively
peaceful over the holidays with the main excitement being the
discovery of a house in Harris Lane being used for growing cannabis.
The offenders have scarpered but no doubt the police will catch
up with them. Our Neighbourhood Watch volunteers are out and about
each evening checking on insecure premises etc. We thank them
for their dedication. Those of you who have let us know that you
will be away on holiday will have had peace of mind. There have
been reports of children in the school grounds quite late at night.
Parents! Do you know where your child is?
SANSON COMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
In October we reported the purchase of the Junction Hotel by the
Manawatu District Council and residents will have noticed the
changes being made already. We have set up a committee to run
the Sunday Market and while this has been a steep learning curve
for us we have been pleased with the co-operation we have received.
The M.D.C. are making plans for the building and we expect that
we will be able to have an input to these.
At our last meeting we discussed the lack of progress with the
construction of the Phillips St. footpath and the Cemetery Rd.
walking track. We are very grateful to Ed Hills for spraying the
walking track and we have requested the M.D.C. to provide P.D.
workers to tidy it up. Over Christmas I had occasion to take family
from Australia to Feilding where we visited Kowhai Park and felt
very dispirited on returning home to see our shabby lanes and
back streets after seeing Feilding's Manchester Square and gardens
all in pristine condition. Be assured that your committee is working
on your behalf. We will soon be able to start requesting for another
of our open drains to be piped. We pay a special rate towards
this work and hopefully there is enough money for the next project
to go ahead.
The next meeting of the committee will be held in the Library
on Wednesday February 25th at 7.30pm. All welcome!
SUNDAY MARKET.
While we have had ups and downs with the weather generally the
market has proved to be profitable. We have set up a bank account
for the takings and have applied to the Charities Commission to
be a non profit organization. Our aim is to return the takings
except for legitimate expenses to the community and we intend
to have three funding rounds each year.
We are currently working on application forms and any individual
or organization may apply for funding. Strict criteria will be
adhered to and applicants must show willingness to help themselves.
For hall bookings
phone Del 393674. Individual quotes given!
SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Several of our subscribers will be in for a rude shock when they
get an account for books that they have not returned to us despite
being sent several reminders. While we volunteers love our library
and enjoy the work, we do get fed up with both adults and children
who join, take out a book or books and we never see them again.
It is frustrating so we have left it to Feilding Library to chase
them up! If you haven't joined our library yet remember that it
is free to all and we generally can get any book that you may
request. We have approximately 700 books from Feilding Library
which are changed every eight weeks, the next book change taking
place on Wednesday 11th February. We appreciate all the help we
can get so if you are able just come along at 10.30am.on that
day. We have a good range of fiction including Large Print as
well as many non fiction books covering a vast range of subjects.
Remember our photo copying and laminating services. Our prices
are very competitive.
DOGS!
Good to see many of you walking your dogs up Cemetery Rd but please
take a plastic bag with you and use the Doggy Loo bin. As a visually
impaired person I get quite irate when I step in something that
should not be there. There have been reports of a person exercising
his dog in the school grounds. This is a no no! If you want to
give your dog a good run why not take it to the Domain (otherwise
known as the Rec) which is a recognized Dog exercise area?
RECYCLING CENTRE
What a lot of aggravation some residents give those of us who
are committed to keeping the place tidy. There is now a security
camera trained on the centre so please obey the rules. One Bulls
resident has already had a sharp reminder after leaving evidence
amongst rubbish left on the ground. Somebody who should have known
better left a lot of old computer parts.
Please act responsibly!
SWIMMING POOL
Lots of hassles here for the volunteers who take responsibility
for the pool! Seemingly the main door has been tampered with and
many of the electronic cards will not work. Diane and Nadine are
working towards getting this rectified and apologise to those
of you who have been inconvenienced. The lock will have been changed
by the time you read this and an endeavour will have been made
to contact you to exchange your key. As some details may have
changed, if you have not been contacted phone Diane on 3293996
after 4pm. The Sunday Market committee is pleased to be able to
help with the funding.
WAITANGI DAY
The Rongotea Lions would love to see you at the Te Kawau Centre
in Rongotea for their annual Waitangi Day Lions Day on Friday
February 6th.
A bulk collection will be taken up in our village from 6pm on
Wednesday evening the 4th of February. Please put your unwanted
goods out at your gate. Remember that one man's trash is another
man's treasure!
