June 2009
This month the Snippets
comes to you courtesy of Andrew Feldon of Streetwise
Coffee. Andrew is renowned for the awards that he has
won as a Barista and judging by the number of customers he attracts
his ability is known far and wide. The coffee he uses is completely
organic and he does double shot lattes. As a non coffee drinker
I have no idea what that means but it sounds good!
SANSON CLUB
The Club's AGM is being held at 3pm on Sunday 14th June. Members
please bring a plate. If you are contemplating joining the club
or just looking for a fun afternoon come along. All Welcome!
Euchre nights are held every Wednesday evening from 7pm and if
this is your thing come along and bring a friend, The more the
merrier!
The club is tendering one of its pool tables as a new one is being
purchased. It is approximately 8 foot by 4 foot with a set of
balls but no cues. Tender documents are available from the club
or by phoning 3293 558. The table can be viewed at the club during
opening hours. Monday and Tuesday 5pm to 7pm. Friday and Saturday
5pm to 10pm and Sunday 4pm to 9pm or by arrangement
SANSON COMMUNITY
LIBRARY
Our next book change will take place at 10.30 am Wednesday June
17th and we are always pleased to see anyone who can come along
and help on that day. It would be helpful to have overdue books
returned by that date. If you have a special request just let
any of our volunteers know and we will order it for you. Books
requested that are not held in Feilding Library and have to be
brought in from other sources cost $5. As we are having to update
our photocopier we will have to increase the photo copying charges
to 15c per A4 sheet and 25c per A3 sheet. We have masses of jigsaw
puzzles for the addicts. Eventually we will be moving into the
hotel building but that is well into the future.
ARCHIVES
Now with the cooler weather setting in and a bit more spare time
we hope to make some progress with the Archives. On Anzac Day
I had a discussion with Desley Pearce who has photos etc. that
are of interest. If you have any photos, slides of days gone past
particularly the County Centenary we will be pleased to borrow
them.. All care taken! James has scanned and put on disc many
of the photos we have been lent already and David has quite a
selection on his Archive section on his Sanson net.

SUBMISSIONS
On Monday I presented the Community Committee's submissions to
the M.D.C. One was for monetary support for our Swimming Pool.
The cost of operating it is truly horrendous and this committee
is dedicated to keeping it up and running. Many school pools have
been closed due to operating costs and the Health and Safety Rules
and it is a credit to the committee and the teachers that they
are committed to having all the school children learn to swim.
They certainly deserve our support.
We also asked for the widening of Fagan St. from Dundas Rd. to
the school and this is I think the fifth time we have made this
submission. Working on the theory that the squeaky wheel gets
the most oil we will keep plugging away at it!
CAMERA
Are you aware as you drive through the village that there is a
speed camera watching you? I imagine that it will pay for itself
fairly quickly!
GAS BOTTLES
Caltex Service Station wants it known that they no longer have
a facility for filling gas bottles. They can be filled at the
Mobil Station in Bulls or alternatively at the Mobil Manfield
Service Station at 62 Awahuri Rd Feilding
SANSON COMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we discussed plans that are being made for
the hotel building but as we have had one message from the MDC
and a quite different message from Destination Manawatu I am unwilling
to write anything at this stage. However we hope to see some action
there soon! Our next meeting is in the Library at 7 30pm on Wednesday
24th June and all residents are welcome to attend.
HOLIDAY
Recently I was very fortunate to be taken on a three week trip
around the South Island with my daughter Maureen and my son-in
law Bruce. I had a truly wonderful time doing all the tourist
things. We were very lucky with the weather and had only one wet
day. At Lake Tekapo we woke to snow on Mother's Day and it was
COLD!! Asked the highlight of my trip I am torn between the tuataras
at Southland Museum and the awe inspiring beauty of Milford Sound.
We went to a wonderful Maori and Colonial Museum at Okains Bay
on Banks Peninsula and I wonder why Kiwis go overseas when there
is so much here to see. Thank you to my good neighbours who fed
my goldfish, collected my mail, looked after the hall bookings
and the wonderful Neighbourhood Watch men who kept my home safe
and sound for me. On reflection I think that spending time and
being looked after by my family and visiting Don's relations on
the mainland was probably the best!
BROADBAND
Would you like a broadband and telephone service in Sanson as
an alternative to Telecom? If so, ring James on 3293722 evenings
