Sanson
Snippets
March 2009
This month the Snippets
comes to you courtesy of John Whitaker known to many of you as John
the Plantman at the Sunday Market. John's website can be viewed
on www.eplants.co.nz and
this is frequently updated especially after he has been tripping
around to Christchurch and Melbourne for their garden shows. John
is also responsible for the cameras set up in the Library and at
David Pickles which capture images which can be viewed on David's
www.sanson.net.co.nz website.
And while on the subject of cameras unfortunately the camera trained
on the Recycling Centre has not deterred the person who, either
too lazy or mean to dispose of his own rubbish, has left a stack
of computer parts etc. there And as for the person who left two
boxes of beer bottles for someone else to put into the container!
Thank you to the residents who cleaned up after these inconsiderate
people. We are so lucky to have this Recycling Centre, Would residents
like our village to look like Feilding on their recycling day when
their streets are lined with plastic bags and piles of cardboard?
We realize that a lot of out of towners use the facility. It is
annoying to have to ring the Council to remove stuff that should
never have been left there in the first place.
SANSON COMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
At our last meeting we expressed our extreme frustration to our
liaison Councillor about the lack of progress with the Phillips
St footpath, which was supposed to have been completed by now.
Bob Thompson, our blind resident addressed the meeting and told
of his frustrations at getting about. He told us how when a pothole
had been filled in he lost all sense of location. With the fast
moving traffic bypassing the junction intersection he is in danger
whenever he gets out and about. We also discussed the Sunday Market
and the letter one resident has written to the Manawatu Standard
concerning the dispersal of the profits. She has got it all wrong.
Our contention is that our rates should pay for footpaths, drains
etc. Because we have applied to the Charities Commission for charitable
status does not mean that all the money will go to charities.
We need to be a non for profit organization and this is the only
way we can become one. As for the committee having the 'good luck'
to spending the profits, we are the ones doing the work, attending
the market, taking the phone calls, organizing the stalls and
looking after the building. Would she like to come on to the committee
and do her share? I think not! Any person or organization may
apply for funding and we intend to make donations to Bulls Fire
Brigade and the St. Johns Ambulance who look after us so well.
Requests
Sally on phone 3293823 is still wanting dozen and half dozen egg
cartons. She is also looking for clean, clear plastic shopping
bags mainly white but coloured ones will also be acceptable. These
are for a project that she has in mind which sounds very interesting!
SANSON SWIMMING
POOL
Diane Murray addressed our
meeting about the concerns that the swimming pool committee has.
Quotes have been received to repaint the pool and the swimming
pool committee is applying for funding to various funding agencies.
The cheapest quote was for $18,000. In the interim they are holding
a Gala Day at the school on Sunday March 22nd from 11 am. and
residents are urged to support it. There will be all sorts of
races, a sausage sizzle, various stalls and other entertainment.
Several raffles will be shortly in circulation and we ask residents
to support them. The cost of operating the pool is far more than
the income from the sale of keys, distribution of phone books
etc. With the new Health and Safety rules the pump must run continuously
around the clock and the power bill last month was $300. For a
small community this combined with the cost of chemicals etc is
very worrying and the committee asks the community to get behind
them with their fund-raising. Wouldn't it be nice if the rate
that we all pay towards the Makino Pool could be diverted to ours?

how to fill out the Snippets when suddenly the sound of sirens
fills the air. Now on Friday morning as we all know that wonderful

formerly known as Woodlands and now known as The Manor has been
devastated by fire. To those of you affected in any way by this
devastation we share your loss.
