This month the Snippets
comes to you courtesy of Neil Hogg, owner of New World Supermarket
in Feilding. I prefer to shop there for several reasons. Apart
from the great range of goods on offer there is the excellent
parking, the helpful assistants who will help me find that elusive
item, there is also the opportunity to add to my Fly Buys account.
HOTEL BUILDING
If we had known about the April 16th meeting called by Destination
Manawatu sooner we would have advertised it more widely. However
there was quite a good turnout to hear what plans are being mooted
for the building. We are not happy that the new toilets are planned
for the southern side and may only be temporary. We have asked
for them to reconsider. While we understand that the present Library
Building will be sold, we do not want to lose the playground which
is used by passersby as well as the local children. Some suggestions
for the building include an Information Centre, a treatment room
for a chiropodist, an after school facility for children, a gym,
a restaurant,
If you have any ideas please put them in submission form to the
M.D.C.
Submissions close on May 14th.
SANSON COMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
We had quite an interesting meeting on April 22nd at the hotel
building to discuss the LTCCP. Thank you to those of you who turned
out and made your contributions to the discussion. Some of us
are concerned at how long it will be before the hotel building
becomes a paying proposition but planning is underway. We also
discussed what water was available in the event of a fire. Many
of us have large water tanks which are readily accessible and
the Fire Brigade needs to know exactly where they are. Concern
was expressed about wandering dogs, problems with the water supply
and footpaths needing repairs. If you have a concern do ring the
Call Centre at the M.D.C. phone 3230000 and log your complaint.
PLEASE NOTE
Would the person or persons
who borrowed the concrete blocks from the corner of Fagan St.
and Hedges St please return them. The power pole on this corner
has been scraped in the past by a large truck and the blocks are
there as a deterrent.
And the person with the sore throat who went out to pick a lemon
from her tree to make a soothing drink was not pleased to find
every last lemon had been stolen.
We were pleased that the Police made an arrest after the break-in
at the Caltex garage last week when several thousands of dollars
of cigarettes were stolen.
Keep an eye out for anything that appears to be suspicious particularly
cruising cars. They are not all looking for houses for Sale!
Are you guilty of leaving
your letterbox full of mail? It makes it very hard for the mailman
and the people who deliver the free papers and junk mail.
If you don't want the junk mail please put a notice on your box.
If you don't want the Herald please ring Heather on phone 3293558
RECYCLING
CENTRE
Who left the mattress at the Centre? Recyling does not mean that
you can just drop off your unwanted goods there in the hope that
they will be useful to someone else. Please do not do it!
SANSON COMMUNITY
LIBRARY
We had a good response to our request for help with our changeover
and we are delighted with the books we received. We still have
twenty overdue books out and would appreciate them being returned
as soon as possible. Our photo- copying and laminating services
are being well used and it is pleasing to have residents come
in to use the computer. The computer is free but there is a charge
of 10 cents per A4 page for printing from it
SANSON SUNDAY
MARKET.
The market is ticking over quite nicely and we are getting close
to making funds available to worthy causes. The application forms
are available from Del 3293674 or Mike 3293558. For stall sites
phone Sally on 3293823. Price $15 per site.
Is there anybody out there
with expertise on repairing water pumps? If so please let us know
as this is one of the most frequent questions I get asked. And
if you are looking for a property to rent or conversely have a
property to rent please let us know and we will advertise for
you.
USEFUL NUMBERS
TO HAVE ON HAND
(Odd Job Man Page)
Lionel on phone 3293066 for plumbing problems and
Matt Ryan on phone 021 423 013 for electrical work.
And may I say thank you to Matt for sorting out my electrical
problem for me!
NEIGHBOURHOOD
WATCH
A big thank you to the person who wishes to remain anonymous for
his generous donation towards the night patrol. Our main expenses
are keeping money on the cell phones and the torch batteries now
that winter is nearly here. We are in the process of organising
CCTV cameras to protect the school, pool and Community Hall and
these should be up and running shortly.
