Sanson
Snippets
November
2009
This month the Snippets come
to you courtesy of Peter, Elaine and the
staff of Brooklyne Tearooms. The tearooms have now be open
for 20 years and Elaine and staff have enjoyed serving you for
ten of those years and have made many friends. Big changes at
Brooklyne as from the 2nd of November. Elaine will be operating
the Postal Agency at the café
and trusts that we will all bear with the staff as they get to
grips their new role. The Post Boxes have also been relocated
there which will be a relief to the box-holders as it seemed for
a while that we would lose them entirely. We wish them all the
best with this new enterprise.
Those of us who have dealt at Caltex
over many years are saddened that it will be closed by the time
you read this and we thank the staff there for their service and
unfailing good humour over the last few weeks when their livelihood
has been taken away and likelihood of future employment uncertain.
We all wish them well. We also wish to thank Peter for his generous
funding of the Neighbourhood Watch mobile phones over the last
year. This has been greatly appreciated by us all.
And with the closing of Caltex,
Viv at Crazee Sundae has undertaken to
carry bread, milk and the newspapers. We are very thankful
that these two businesses have taken on these commodities.
Craig Berquist
has relocated his tyre business to his home at 42 Hedges St. Though
he is not yet fully operational there he can be contacted on 3293874
or 3293601.
EX-HOTEL BUILDING.
People keep asking me what is going on in this building so time
for an update. As you are aware the Community Committee is running
the Sunday Market and we have food available in the dining room
on Sunday mornings. Debate is still raging as to what the Council
is going to do with most of the building but the new Public Toilets
are well underway in the south side of the building. These will
include a disability toilet with wheelchair access. A footpath
will be constructed through the playground and access will also
be available from State Highway One. Hopefully they will be ready
in the not too distant future.
RECYCLING
CENTRE.
Sometimes I despair when I see the mess left there!
The container is changed every Monday morning and it would be
appreciated if residents do not leave their recycling if the container
is full. It is not fair on the contractor to have to deal with
it. Also when Monday is a holiday the Council rubbish pick up
is on Wednesday!!!
SANSON COMMUNITY
COMMITTEE
We are pleased to announce that we have been allocated $10,000
from Pub Charities towards the C.C.T.V. cameras to protect the
School, Hall, Swimming Pool and the War Memorial. So we are well
on our way towards this project. At our meeting we discussed the
lack of action by M.D.C. on many of our concerns. Our next meeting
is in the Library at 7 30pm on Wednesday November 25th at 7 30pm.
All Welcome!
Hall Bookings phone Del 3293674.

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Thanks to those of you who came to help with our book change.
It is appreciated. We are pleased to report that we have enrolled
a few new subscribers and would welcome more. Our service is entirely
free so if you have been thinking about joining just come along
and we will enroll you. Simple as that! We had a great Holiday
Programme and thanks are due to Suzanne who came along each day
to help. Did you see the photo in the Herald of the children with
their puppets? We have been told that our laminating is too cheap
so it is now $1 per A4 sheet. Photo copying is 15c per copy for
multiple copies and 20c for one. If you have any requests of books
to read just let us know and we will order for you.
SANSON SCHOOL
AGRICULTURAL AND CRAFT DAY
This will be held on Wednesday November 4th and all residents
are invited to come along. As well as the lambs and calves the
children will also have their crafts on display. The Lamb and
Calf judging starts at 10 30am.This is a good time to come along
and see how well our school is doing.
SANSON COMMUNITY
AND SCHOOL POOL
This very motivated committee raised $500 with the hangi meal
and with the $15000 granted to them from Eastern and Central Trust
they are well on their way to raising the money to do the necessary
repairs to the pool. The pool will be opened on November 6th so
don't forget to go along to the school office between 8 30am and
12 midday to acquire your key. Phone number is 3293768
SANSON CLUB
The club would like it known that their Melbourne Cup day will
be held on Tuesday the 3rd of November and $2 and $5 sweepstakes
will be organized. The club will be open by 4pm and this occasion
is open to all residents. Food will be available in the form of
Hot Meat Sandwiches and there will be the usual Best Hat competition
for the ladies. Do come along and enjoy the occasion.
