SANSON SNIPPETS
MARCH 2010

This month the Snippets comes to you courtesy of Des Mudford of AGRICULTURAL TRADERS on the Junction corner. Des has a great range of machinery both new and second hand and will be pleased to advise as to what best suits your needs. He also makes a specialty of the needs of small holders and lifestylers. Phone 3293587.
Des has been the victim of a burglary recently and here is a full account.
On the evening of Sunday January 31st a person or persons unknown went to the yard of Agricultural Traders and unlawfully entered a 1999 Isuzu Forward flat deck truck that was for sale on behalf of the owner (Bob Giles of Sanson). After stealing the truck the offender/s have placed a “Fairbrother” ATV spinning jenny and a “Fieldmaster” 600 litre greenlink sprayer coloured red with a 6 metre yellow poly boom, onto the back of the truck and secured them with a length of chain that was removed from the tank area. The offender/s have then driven through the chain at the southern entrance and left the area.
At about 2.30am on Monday 1st February 2010 a train driver travelling on the main trunk line saw the vehicle on fire underneath the Kakariki bridge and reported the matter to the Fire Service and the Police.
The sprayer is a unique piece of agricultural equipment and is distinctive because of the poly tank and boom. It is also one of a very limited number of similar sprayers in the greater Manawatu area.
Any information can be passed in confidence to the N Z Police Crimestoppers crimeline on 0800 555 111 or Alan Aitken Claims Investigator phone 027 818 2528

We now have the C.C.T.V. cameras up and operating at the Hall complex and we wish to acknowledge the financial help given us by Pub Charities, Central Energy, the Education Board and last but not least the Young Farmer’s Club reunion committee who started us off on this long road several years ago by giving us the initial donation. The cameras have already captured on tape the miscreants suspected of throwing seats in the swimming pool a couple of weeks ago so just remember Big Brother is watching you!!!
We wish the M.D.C. would put a camera in at the RECYCLING CENTRE as we have observed more bad behaviour there. If you are the owner of a silver car registration plate number XP 8439 you were spotted dumping rubbish and this has been reported to the M.D.C. We wish to commend the Cairns Bins men who on a recent Monday posted all the recycling that residents had left lying about and then proceeded to pick up all the rubbish that was blowing round the place. Not really their responsibility and we appreciated their actions. If the container is full please take it home with you and come back when it has been emptied. It is always emptied Monday morning and if necessary later in the week.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
You may have noticed that our night patrol men have distinctive Community Patrol New Zealand signs on their vehicles. This has been arranged by Allan Muntz of Manawatu Neighbourhood Support. Allan regularly sends e-mails of vehicles of interest to the police, to all of us whose e-mail addresses he holds on his data base. If you wish to receive this information and are not currently registered with him please send him an e-mail expressing your interest. Allan’s address is mdscc@xtra.co.nz. We thank our night patrol men for their dedication and good work out and about in the evenings checking on insecure premises and keeping us safe.

CRAZY SUNDAE COLOURING COMPETITION.
Viv has organized this colouring competition for the three classes of children at the Sanson School. Their entries will be displayed in her shop towards the end of March and voting will be judged by customers.

SANSON COMMUNITY LIBRARY
What hassles we have had at the Library recently with our power supply and at time of writing it is still not fixed. We apologize to customers who have wished to use the computer or the photo copier over the last few weeks and the fluctuating power supply has made them useless. The power pole outside the library has been deemed unsafe and will be replaced. We thank Sanson School for the use of their photo copier to print these Snippets. We had good help with our recent book change and we thank those who came along to help. A case of many hands make light work.

SANSON COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At out last meeting we discussed the poor quality of service we receive here in the village. Every day we hear complaints about the state of the drains or the lack of cleanliness of the new toilets. We have asked Council for a local person to attend to all the work currently contracted out to people who have no interest in the village and appear to not care how well mowing is done or whether or not rubbish bins at the Cemetery are emptied. We have complained at length and so far have not received any satisfaction. If you have a complaint do not hesitate, ring the Council on 3230000 and complain! Several of our residents have complained about rats recently and with the colder weather fast approaching these need to be dealt with now. People dumping food scraps at the recycling centre do not make things easier either. Dogs rushing at fences are another frequently made complaint. These can be scary particularly to those of us who are not dog lovers. If this sounds like your dog please confine it to your back yard.
Next meeting in the Library at 7 30pm Wednesday 23rd March All Welcome!

For Hall bookings ring Del 3293674. Individual quotes given.
