Sanson
Snippets
August
2010
This month the Snippets come
to you courtesy of Bruce de Cleene who
has opened a firewood selling business behind the Rainbow Furniture
building. So if your stack of firewood is getting down in this
cold frosty winter we are currently experiencing, Bruce is the
man for you to see. His opening special was $50 per cubic meter
but is now $60.00, which is still a very good price for dry firewood.
Chainsaw sharpening services a specialty.
Boy Racers
Have you been bugged by the
rowdy boy racers who have been ripping around the village recently
tearing up our roadside verges? The police would like to hear
from you as it happens. Though you may be put through to Police
Communications often there is a patrol car able to be directed
to the scene quite quickly. Police phone number is 3222020
CONDOLENCES
Many of us were saddened by the recent passing of Lois Thacker.
Those of us who attend Anzac Day services will remember her for
her piano playing and she will be sorely missed. Lois was a member
of the Currie family well known for their musical ability. Her
father Jack was the engine driver on the Sanson Tramway as many
older residents will recall and there is a piece of history for
you! We extend our sympathy to her husband, Maurice and her extended
family.
CALTEX
SERVICE STATION
Over the last few weeks we have been interested to see just what
Cliff Bennett is up to at the site of the old Caltex Service Station.
The news is that the truck stop will be reinstated there and it
will be interesting to see what other businesses go into the building.
Once the permit and resource consent comes through Cliff will
be dismantling part of the building to make more room for the
truck stop and will then refurbish the rest with new cladding
to make premises available for new businesses. When the new concrete
is relaid and the gardens restored Caltex Corner will be rejuvenated.
SUBMISSIONS
We were a little disappointed with the result of our submissions
to the M.D.C.'s Annual Plan. We got no response to our request
for some of our rate money to be diverted from Makino Pool to
our own pool. But on the other hand we were delighted to hear
that our request for a footpath in Hedges St has the go ahead
to be constructed in this financial year. This shows the value
of residents attending the Annual Plan meeting and stating their
concerns. Ian McLaughlin did his homework on that one and stated
the case for the footpath very eloquently. Thank you Ian!
LOCAL
BODY ELECTIONS
These are coming up in October and I am wondering if it is worthwhile
to organize a Meet the Candidates Meeting at the Hall as we have
done in previous years. It is not just the Council that we vote
for but also Horizons Regional Council and the District Health
Board. Each candidate will be given 10 minutes speaking time.
Often ratepayers havn't a clue who half the candidates are and
this gives us a chance to see and hear them and make up our minds
as to who to vote for. In the meantime make sure that you are
on the roll!
SANSON
COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
At our last meeting Wayne Spencer the water and drainage manager
from the M.D.C attended and he now has a better understanding
of problems we have.
It was interesting to hear how financing of drainage, sewerage
and water schemes are funded. With the elections coming up residents
will have a chance to help form the committee for the next three
years. Our next meeting will be held in the Library at 7.30pm
Wednesday 25th August. All Welcome!
SANSON
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
Hard to believe that it is two months since our last book change!
Our new lot will be arriving on Wednesday the 18th August and
we appreciate any help that residents are able to offer. Just
come along to the Library at 10 30am and you will be made welcome.
If there is any thing that you would particularly like to read
let us know and we can order it in for you. We have a few new
borrowers and are always keen for more. Remember our photocopying
and laminating services. Our prices are very competitive!
EX-HOTEL

here are the hours.
