COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
With Local Body elections coming up in October please give some
thought to coming on to the Community Committee which will be
holding an election that same month.
We put in several submissions to the M.D.C. Annual Plan and spoke
to them. One was for a local person to maintain the services that
various contractors have here in Sanson. Our submission was received
with interest and we are hopeful that the many benefits this would
bring will help with decision making. Complaints about the Public
Toilets would be attended to promptly and the village would look
as though we care about it! Rats breeding in the village was another
complaint and Colin Perrin from M.D.C. is doing some investigating.
Personally I bait for rats continually and don't appear to have
a problem. Baits that can be nailed to fence posts are available
from Amey's in Rongotea and seem to be very effective. The next
meeting of the committee will be held in the Library at 7 30pm
on Wednesday 23rd June.
It is not much fun to have
a disability and endeavour to get out and about. Recently our
mayor Ian McKelvie went walkabout along our main street with Shirley
and Dave Pickles on his motorised wheel chair to gauge what needs
to be done in the village to make life a little easier. As you
may know Dave suffered a stroke several years ago and would like
to be able to get, for instance, to the Post Box and it is surprising
just how difficult this is. Bob Thompson also has problems as
he taps his white stick along the footpaths as he gets his exercise.
Vehicles protruding over footpaths and overhanging trees hitting
him in the face all go to make his walks a less enjoyable experience.
How about checking your boundary for these hazards.

SCHOOL NEWS
The B.O.T. Election has been held with several new members being
elected. Lisa Henson who had been chairperson for several years
didn't stand for election and Diane Murray has been appointed
to that position. The other members are Rob Absalom, James O'Regan,
Keri French, and Warwick Wilson. If you wish to receive an e-mailed
copy of the school weekly newsletter please ring the school on
3293768 and register your interest.
If you haven't seen the new B.M.X. Track at the school and the
children enjoying it you have missed a treat. It is a credit to
those who put in the hard yards to build it. It is available to
the older youth too. As it is overseen by the C.C.T.V. cameras
parents can be assured of their children's safety.
The swimming pool committee put in a submission along with the
community committee to apply for some of the rates that we pay
towards the running of the Makino Pool to be diverted to our pool.
It is a huge expense to keep the pool running all season what
with the price of power and chemicals. We do understand that we
have residents who use Makino for Aquarobics and also those with
green prescriptions from their doctors. The members of the committee
have raised the money to have the pool cleaned and repainted and
it looks fabulous. It has been very expensive but necessary as
the original paint was flaking and blocking the filters and the
pump. The paint will be left to cure for as long as possible before
refilling. If you have not returned your last season's key please
do so as soon as possible. They hope to keep the same pricing
for next season's keys.

CLUB
The club is holding a Karoake Night on Friday 18th June
Everyone welcome!
There is no cover charge for this enjoyable evening and a plate
would be appreciated.
Come along for a night you won't forget in a hurry!
CONDOLENCES
We extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Audrey Hendra
who died recently. Audrey and her husband Alec were dairy farmers
near Ohakea for many years and their children all attended Sanson
School. Many of us will remember her for her skills in flower
arranging, cake decorating and other craft work. Certainly a talented
lady. Also to Lynette Olson (nee Mullin) and family whose husband
and father Keith passed away recently. Lynette was also educated
at Sanson School.
It is sad to see the Caltex
building being pulled down and when I remarked to one of the workmen
what a mess they were making his answer was "All in the name
of progress" I hope he is right!
Thank you to Rea at Shed
Boss who provided me with the last episode of Masterchef New Zealand.
Most enjoyable!
