Sanson
Snippets
September
2010
This month the Snippets
comes to you courtesy of Councillors Margaret Giles and John Salmon
who are again contesting the Kairanga electorate in the Local
Body elections. Margaret has been the liaison Councillor for our
Community Committee and both she and John have advocated well
for us over the last three years. They have supported us in our
endeavours to have a local person appointed to be the caretaker
in the village responsible for the toilets, cemetery, the domain,
lawnmowing and just keeping our village looking like a place to
be proud of. We believe that the savings in money spent on contractors
who don't live here and have to be called out to attend to problems
that arise from time to time could be substantial.
SANSON
COMMUNITY LIBRARY
School families will be aware of the recent Te Kawau cluster schools'
art display at Longburn. The Sanson children's art is now on display
for the next few weeks in our Library so do pop in and have a
look at the talent displayed there. It is worth having a look
at. We have recently enrolled a few more borrowers and hope they
are enjoying the selection of books that we have on offer. Thank
you to all of you who came to help with our last book change.
A great turnout and we got through the work very quickly. Remember
our photocopying and laminating services and the computer is there
for all to use for free.
We will be having a Holiday Programme in the first week of the
school holidays September 27th to October 1st from 10am to 11
30am each day. All craft material is provided by Feilding Library.
Pre schoolers need a minder.
Also at the Library we have a Lion's donation tin where you can
get rid of all that old out of date money that we all seem to
have accumulated. Lions won't mind if you donate some current
currency either! It is going to a very worthwhile cause.
RECYCLING
CENTRE
The centre is not only being well used but also abused by many
residents. As we are aware that many users are from further afield
we have suggested to our District Council that this should be
a shared service with Rangitikei District Council. Why should
our ratepayers pay to dispose of their recyclables. If you are
recycling bottles please dispose of the lids in the rubbish tin
not just drop them on the ground for somebody else to pick up.
Thank You!
BARRDROC
CAFÉ
Lorraine has recently taken over this Café just over the
bridge in Bulls and she has asked me to make it known to oldies
that on the fourth Wednesday each month she will be hosting morning
tea at 10am for seniors and she proposes to have a speaker for
your entertainment. Come along at 10am price $6.00 tea coffee
and scones.
DOGS!!!
Lately there have been so many complaints about dogs that we must
reiterate the rules concerning them. Firstly there is a ban on
Dogs in the main street between Burt St and Cemetery Rd. and also
at the Sunday Market. While we have not the authority to enforce
this ban we ask you to abide by it. Not all of us are dog lovers
but we do respect people's rights to keep them as pets but we
also should be able to put fliers etc. in letter boxes without
being threatened by menacing and barking dogs. Secondly many people
who are away at work all day find it hard to believe how much
their dogs whine and bark while they are absent but believe me,
it is a real pain to many of us stay at homers. And if you have
more than two dogs is the Council aware of this? The Domain is
a recognized dog exercise area and don't forget your pooper-scooper.
SANSON
COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Both Councillor Steve Gibson and Candidate Kara Lummis attended
our last meeting along with quite a few of our residents. It was
good to have the interest shown. At our October meeting we will
be electing a new committee and we would love to have a few new
faces join us. Most of our discussion at the last meeting centred
about the irregular house numbering in Farmer St and those people
affected will shortly get a notification about what is proposed
to alleviate this problem. Yet again we discussed dogs, lanes
and drains and the never ending dissatisfaction with services
to the village. The next meeting will be held in the Library at
7 30pm on Wednesday September 22nd.
A date has been set for
the Meet the Candidates meeting in the supper room of the Community
Hall. This will be held at 7 30pm on Wednesday September 15th.
Kairanga ward candidates, Mayoral candidates and Horizon Regional
candidates have been invited. Residents are asked to come along
and show an interest in what happens not only in our area but
right through the Manawatu District. The Community Committee will
be campaigning hard for the aforementioned care-taker amongst
other concerns. Please come along. There will be a cup of tea
or coffee after the meeting which gives residents a chance to
talk informally to the candidates.
The SUNDAY
MARKET COMMITTEE
is pleased to announce donations have been made recently to the
Sanson Pool committee towards the painting of the pool and also
to the Sanson School to pay for the transport of the school children
on their ski trip. Wish we could assure them of good weather!
BIRTHDAY
